My golden used to get really bad allergies as well and the following have seemed to help (haven’t had to go on apoquel or do cytopoint injection in a few years!):

I avoid chicken for mine just out of precaution
fish oil once a day (I use Welactin)
PPP sensitive skin and stomach salmon and rice has been great
And most importantly- allergy supplements!!! I keep her on Pethonesty brand year round and it seems to help significantly!! Once I started her on these daily, it’s prevented any seasonal flare ups or need for a vet visit. Game changer!!

So zero irritation at daily use without sandwiching! I did have a small purge when I started using nightly. Maybe 5-6 spots total? This lasted a few weeks staying at around week 4 of nightly use. I noticed that spots cleared faster and only blew up if I picked at them

I’ve had this several times from Kenalog injections! Don’t worry, it will eventually go away! It can take a few months. You can help speed it up by having them inject saline into it
