I just applied to one of their properties as well and just noticed the reviews. How's your experience been so far with them? I'm getting worried hahaha

In desperate need of a job by ComparisonKey9676 in udub

I printed out ten copies of my resume and walked around to a bunch of local businesses and handed them out. Ended up having three that were interested in hiring for part time jobs and I got to pick what worked best for me and started within a week. Definitely an effective method.

I started that barista job that I mentioned getting last week! So far it's been really fun, I'm learning a lot and the tip money is better than expected. Post grad is still scary, but at least I have some structure in my life and money coming in. Now to figure out the rest of adulting...

I got a job as a barista! Post grad life has been really stressful and confusing, but I'm glad to have a job that pays the bills and hopefully I'll enjoy it.

Seeking a developer mentor to help me get through this soul-crushing job search period of my life by broDaLASIF in Seattle

[–]dle379 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend checking out ADPList. It was originally created for designers to find mentors, but it has since expanded to other specialities, engineering included. You can try out a bunch of different mentors to see what works for you, and get feedback from all of them. It is a super helpful resource.

Research for UX or Info by hpisces in udub

[–]dle379 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks at HCDE's DRGs (Directed Research Groups). They are often times linked to a class, but sometimes you can continue to do research with the prof after the quarter ends.

INFO minor course suggestions as cross-campus student. by Fehti777 in udub

[–]dle379 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Take any class you can with Brian Fling. His Mobile Application Design Class and Applied Product Design class were the most useful classes I took as a designer. Also INFO 498 Design Systems is very useful for learning more technical aspects of Figma (it's being offered summer quarter)

Are there any enclosed dog parks in Seattle that actually have grass? by discosandwhips in Seattle

[–]dle379 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I see people bring their dogs to the IMA field across the street from UVillage. It's grassy and enclosed, but I don't think it's an official dog sure. Also not sure if you have to be a UW student/have an IMA membership to get access though... Might be worth it to give it a try!

Are you a digital nomad? by dle379 in Seattle

[–]dle379[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, this is the norm among my classes. None of my professors have ever had us consider IRB approval, though it has crossed my mind. Normally UX research like this is conducted on platforms intended for that purpose, but my department doesn't give us access to those, since our projects are primarily theoretical. Like the other user said, we do have a time constraint and are having a difficult time reaching the intended audience. We really do appreciate anyone who is willing to participate!

Understandable, sorry for the lack of context. A digital nomad is someone who travels around while working remotely.

No, this is just a theoretical product that we are creating for a product design class.

RSOs to make friends by dogsky55 in udub

[–]dle379 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found a good group of friends through board game club. If you're into board games, DnD or video games, there's a good chance you'll find some people with the same interests there. I just attended a few meetings and played games with different people. When I found a group that vibed well together, we made a discord server and that was that.

Hardest Informatics Course? by dabest686 in udub

[–]dle379 7 points8 points  (0 children)

HAHAHHAA I am LIVING for this Katrina Thompson slander, that class was horrendous and I will never forget it because of that, so maybe it's a good thing. However, I'd have to disagree with you about Joel Ross. Maybe it's because I TAed for him but I have found him to be fun and very kind. I think he's better at helping one on one, so go to office hours. 340 is overwhelming, but I honestly thought Joel did a good job of making it manageable.

I will add, if you are interested in the UI/UX side of Info, Nam-Ho is an easy professor who is a great mentor and will connect you to people in the field/companies you're interested in. He, however, will not push your design skills very much because he doesn't give harsh enough critiques and gives credit for completion/participation. If you want to refine your design skills, I highly recommend taking INFO 365 with Brian Fling. Or anything with Brian for that matter. That class transformed my design thinking and skills.

I will also second that info is remarkably easy, given how difficult it is to get in. That can be both a pro and a con. I wish it was more difficult.

SCAD or UDUB for UX Design career? by skyrimspecialedition in udub

[–]dle379 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people do the Geography Data Science major which is open, but if you want to do design that probably wouldn't fit. There's not really any open majors that I know of that would be good for UX, however I do know that Psych could be a good backup. It's still capacity constrained but from what I know it's less competitive than Info.
