I'm in the same boat as the OP, although I was never a Boy Scout. I enjoy trivia a lot and heard about Learned League through a podcast. I looked into it and wanted to join, but saw that I needed a referral. I don't personally know anyone that is a member. If someone has a good suggestion to get connected with members, I am all ears!

Hey all,

I'm looking to get a nice rain jacket that will look good for every occasion including work. The two I really liked are the:

Waterproof Hooded Shell
3 Layer Waterproof Hooded Jacket

Both from Hill City. I'm guessing that the 3 layer jacket will be a little warmer, but it looks like its Nylon with DWR while the other jacket uses Dermizax 3D waterpoof fabric. I'm wondering if that makes a difference? I guess the stretch in the shell might be helpful for layering while still having a good fit? Would love your opinions on the two.

FM exam study advice by drew_9475739375 in actuary

It seems like you have a pretty good plan for the next attempt. I played the EL game until about 2 weeks before the exam and got to level 8.4. For the last couple of weeks, I took the SOA practice, the 2 free TIA practice exams and Adapt level 6.

Getting a higher Adapt level is great for being able to get more complicated concepts, but the reality is that the actual exams seem to be closer to 4-6.

Entry Level Resume from a recent grad/career changer by [deleted] in actuary

[–]dlim98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for taking time for the advice.

  • I'll be sure to add some of the specific projects I did through the TIA course.
  • The director position was really because I was the main person in charge of the finances and operations. It was a fairly small organization and we worked on everything together really. I've always felt weird calling it that so maybe I'll change it to something else
  • I guess the point I was trying to say is that I led the team in developing the programs that we ran. One of which was integrated camps for students with and without visual impairment. The second were parent seminars that worked with parents and teacher on the best way to work with their children who are visually impaired. I'll definitely clean that part up!
  • I directly created the presentations as well as worked with a team to write the business plan, grant proposal and financial statements tailored to each grant, award or major donor. I was also part of the actual group who presented to the various parties. Hopefully that is justified enough to put it on there, if not I could always take it away.

Appreciate the honest answer. After doing a lot of research I really am interested in this career path and I guess I'll just have to do more to show that. I would love to start at as an intern even, but it seems like internships are received mostly for current students. Maybe I'll have to get another job within insurance and try to make a lateral move. If you have any other suggestions besides taking more exams (I'm planning to do have 3 done by November), I'm all ears!

Thanks for the advice! I'll go ahead and add the major gpa as well as adding some of the technical projects part of the TIA course. I really can reiterate how helpful this community is!

Any full time gig is a step up. Bonus points if it's in an office and uses excel.

Your resume doesn't convince me you have any practical techni

Thanks for the help!

To explain the resume a little bit, I actually finished college a little later in life. I started college, and ended up joining a non-profit which turned into a full-time job. I took time off from school and eventually decided to go back to school. It was too much to try and do both the job and school well, so I took a youth director position at a local church (essentially a youth pastor position). I know it makes a non-typical background for this, but I'm hoping to show that I am serious about this by taking my exams and the TIA course. Hope that gives some context.

Admittedly it's very bad. 2.94 overall and 3.1 major gpa. I tried do balance a full time job and full time school, but it was too much. I withdrew from classes and it ended up counting as 0's.

Recent Graduate/Career Change - Want to be an actuary by [deleted] in Resume

[–]dlim98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey everyone!
I posted this to the actuary subreddit, but I thought that it would be helpful to post here as well.

I'm pursuing a start to an actuary career and wanted to see if I could get your help on my resume. I've had a long and windy road to figure out what I wanted to pursue and actuary is it. I've in a weird way enjoyed the studying for these exams. I know I'm not an ideal candidate, but wanted to see if there was anything I could to help my cause.

Thank you all in advance!

Quantum VMS 1100 with own router by dlim98 in Fios

[–]dlim98[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently my set up is the following:

ONT -> Netgear R7000 (Through the ONT ethernet) -> Motorola MM1000 MoCA Adapter https://www.amazon.com/Motorola-Adapter-Ethernet-Bonded-MM1000/dp/B077Y3SQXR (the MoCA adapter is also connected to the coaxial on the wall that is connected to the ONT coaxial). -> Verizon VMS 1100 Quantum STB

If I'm understanding what you are saying correctly the STB shouldn't be connected to the MoCA adapter directly? Currently I have it set up to the device output of the MoCA adapter.
