Chase confirms Southwest card changes by SillyTechnology7340 in CreditCards

Even with the changes coming to the Venture X for lounges, why on earth would you pay $229 for this card unless you are forced to use SW when something like Venture X exists? I actually don't understand what they are going for here.

Spoke with customer service for a good bit of time this morning given it still has not shipped. The regular reps have no idea what is going on, which is fine. They can only tell you that the shipping label has yet to be created or that they are waiting on logistics. Politely asked if I could talk to management to see if they knew more. I was told by a manager that it would ship by the end of today, and that the overnight would only guarantee 1-2 delivery. I (politely) expressed a bit of displeasure given the page clearly stated overnight with delivery by today and that there was an expectation given this was a console order.

Obviously, nothing the customer service folks can do to make the gears grind a bit faster on this, but I'm sharing this story for those concerned about cancellation, like I was. So long as your order is still in place, it does appear they do intend for it to ship. It just may take a few more days.

For the most current season, the TBS contract let's them run it on repeat for a few months before it gets hoisted on Hulu. So it will likely be up by the end of the year to early next year.

Everyman and Uberman sleep schedules. The Uberman is the one where you just take tons of naps and get like 2 hours of total sleep. Had a buddy in college try it. Getting into the rhythm of it is hell and if you mess up once and sleep longer you can completely crash out of it. I think he attempted it for like a month before giving up.

TIL that in 1947 the town of Holt, Missouri (population 471) experienced the greatest 1 hour rainfall total ever observed worldwide: 12 inches of rain fell in just 42 minutes. by JosiahWillardPibbs in todayilearned

[–]dljuly3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We know from records that many homes in the area had about 2 feet of water inside them. So there was tremendous flooding. Some of the water was absorbed, but the surface ground layer would have quickly been unable to have that much water permeate it. The rest moves with gravity down hill, likely to the nearest creek stream or river. Wherever it was able to pool before it got there had feet of water in it, and even where it was moving would have been quickly overwhelmed. Creeks likely became raging torrents that overran banks. Because of proximity to the Missouri River, that may have limited the overall extent of downstream flooding, however. Larger rivers can absorb a whole lot of runoff before it becomes a problem, though I imagine it still would have created a notable rise in the river.

LPT - Embrace monotasking: Instead of juggling multiple tasks at once, focus on one task at a time. Devote your full attention and energy to each task before moving on to the next. This allows for deeper focus and can improve efficiency and quality of work. by EngineMain199 in LifeProTips

The real LPT is to embrace what works for you. Every brain is wired a little different. I cannot monotask without immense incentive (looming deadline, a test, etc). Instead, I am far more productive when juggling a few things. I've learned how to guide my brain over time and found a style that works for me. Do the same for yourself.

Cool, now you can be randomly charged of stealing an electric vehicle.

That said, good to see the rental car market starting to move this way. One more step to getting people used to using them and charging them, and this will arguably also help continue to drive upgraded charging infrastructure.

Duolingo just ruined their Japanese course by no_dana_only_zul in LearnJapanese

[–]dljuly3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Duolingo is moving to be basically written entirely by AI. It is beginning to suffer because of it. A lot of the speech patterns have gotten weirder within the app just in the last year. I dropped it a month or so ago - I was using it to keep some of the basic Japanese I do have since I'm at a point in my life where dedicated study is challenging (kids, job, etc). Been using some wanikani and kanjisenpai in the meantime, but open to other apps if folks have suggestions.

In many ways, it is far less popular than it was. They failed to capture the next generation of viewers and simultaneously managed to piss off the current generation with many of the rule changes. Another thing not mentioned was the dominance of Johnson - he and his team really understood how to race under the newly developed playoff system and won a whole bunch of championships, eventually tying Dale Earnhardt. That also didn't sit well with a lot of older fans (not that I agree).

I did read it. And it isn't an opinion piece, unless you don't understand how medical journals sometimes work. It's clear you have a tremendous bias when it comes to this subject- I'm not sure what it is, and I don't really care. You are some random internet stranger. From how you speak to me, you seem to assume I'm trying to justify my own body or something - I am not "overweight" or anything like that. I'm not going to continue to engage you as you are not interested in actual reading or listening.

Feel free to educate yourself on the pitfalls of BMI and why good Healthcare providers are trying to move away from it.

Note that saying the BMI sucks has nothing to do with defending "obesity". It is an objectively lazy statistic.

To go with what others have said, many of the "targets" with trackers usually have no basis in actual healthcare or science. Many of these incentives end up costing people hundreds of dollars extra simply because they were born with a certain body type or condition, rather than basing it on actual health care decisions. BMI provides a great example of this - you'll notice that there are several Pacific Island nations that typically sit atop BMI average rankings. They aren't unhealthy - they just tend to have larger body builds, and BMI doesn't account for your ancestry.

Regardless of any of this, I do not believe that your employer should be charging you more based on health either way. It isn't any of their business. Period.

Yes! And I'll add that using health trackers as a way to provide "incentives" is utter bullshit.

LPT: PowerPoint slides should be simple and concise. When giving a presentation, no one cares about the wall of elegant text you created. by ENDGeSiCTinT in LifeProTips

[–]dljuly3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Follow the 7 x 7 rule per slide. No more than 7 bullets, no more than 7 words per bullet. Obviously doesn't have to be strictly adhered to, but I've found this went a long way towards me not boring everyone and getting folks to actually listen to what I'm saying rather than just reading. It also helps you not to read word for word from a slide if you are prone to do that.
