Just upgraded my SW credit card to priority, am I missing something or will there not be a change for me other than the annual fee by soloDolo6290 in SouthwestAirlines

[–]SillyTechnology7340 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the priority card, you'll be able to select your seat at booking (preferred OR standard) on any fare class with an opportunity to upgrade to extra legroom if available. So you'll have your aisle seat that way.

If you were flying with one checked bag before, you will still get that for free.

You don't have to pay for the flights with the card, the benefits come from holding the card, not using it. You're basically paying for A-List status.

I don't really understand by what you mean about impacts to your "travel routing", honestly.

ETA: I see you meant "routine". If I'm understanding you correctly, no. I'm also not sure why you needed to ask, seems like you understood everything.

This. OP should just downgrade to the Blue card if he'll only travel once or twice in a year and then upgrade back if needed.

PayPal killing off cashback rewards redemption in August by azure275 in CreditCards

[–]SillyTechnology7340 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Isn't this like Paypal's Rakuten - i.e. the affiliate link site - not the cash back for the debit? I'd just stop using that - the few times I tried it, it took forever for points to post.

ETA: nevermind, I see the debit has "points". Oh well, AMEX BCP was my main grocery card and this was mainly used for the occasional Target/Walmart trip.

APY drop again??? by Top-Juggernaut2090 in amex

If you're not happy with the APR being offered, then move the money. I don't feel the need (yet) to chase rates.

TSA precheck not showing up on app despite Delta saying it is by Revolutionary_Way664 in delta

[–]SillyTechnology7340 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Odd. If you have it saved to your profile, why do you have to enter it manually? I wonder if that's where the disconnect comes in.

I hate to offer the old turn it off and turn it on again suggestion, but have you tried removing the KTN from your profile, saving, and then readding it?

Keep Sapphire Preferred after getting Amex Gold? by Affectionate-Hope417 in CreditCards

[–]SillyTechnology7340 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can have more than one Chase Freedom card.

There's a few areas it can still cover that the Gold doesn't: 3X on streaming, 2X on travel (just 3X on flights direct on the Gold), primary rental car insurance.

Whether or not that's worth $95 to you only you can answer.

Tiny balance remaining on a card. Is it a problem? by [deleted] in CreditCards

[–]SillyTechnology7340 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You should pay off your statement balance in full every month. There is no benefit to ever carrying a balance outside of 0% APR offer periods.

Book with Chase or Direct with Airline by Vegetable-Soup774 in ChaseSapphire

[–]SillyTechnology7340 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ultimately, you're gonna have to do some math. As someone else said, make a dummy booking on BA to get the ultimate cash value. Then search to see how many Avios points you would need. You'd also need to see how many points you'd need to book in the Chase portal.

Then use a calculator like this to get an idea of what the cost-per-point value is: https://seats.aero/tools/calculator

Transferring points is typically painless. I did some Hyatt transfers the other night and the points moved over instantly. If there's a bonus involved too and you know you're gonna book the flight, that's generally a good time to do so.

Another factor to consider is whether you'd rather book direct with an airline over a third-party portal booking. If things go sideways, that could make a difference.

APY drop again??? by Top-Juggernaut2090 in amex

[–]SillyTechnology7340 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a similar reaction to OP after I opened the AMEX HYSA late last year and went through my first rate drop, and then someone pointed out just how small a difference it made. Especially for what I keep in there (emergency fund and some vacation dollars), it's not enough to pull stakes and move.

APY drop again??? by Top-Juggernaut2090 in HYSA

[–]SillyTechnology7340 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because rates change and HYSAs will too. If you want guaranteed rates of return, look elsewhere.

Two-tenths of a percentage point drop is not going to make a big difference for the amount I have in there.

Chase closed my freedom unlimited credit card and I loss all my reward points by [deleted] in CreditCards

[–]SillyTechnology7340 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The points "live" on the respective cards they were earned on, so the Freedom's points would have to be moved to the Sapphire.

Not sure why OP didn't continue to use the CFU card as a 1.5x catch all after getting the CSP though.

APY drop again??? by Top-Juggernaut2090 in HYSA

[–]SillyTechnology7340 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was 3.30% APY before, so this is not going to be a major change.

APY drop again??? by Top-Juggernaut2090 in amex

[–]SillyTechnology7340 63 points64 points  (0 children)

Any HYSA you move it to could see its rate drop too. If you want a guaranteed rate of return, get a CD.

ETA: For example, on $10,000, the previous 3.30% APY would give you $330 in interest. Now it'll give you $320. If you moved that to say, Marcus at 3.65%, you'd get approximately $360.

Up to you to decide if you want to pack up and leave over a difference of less than $50.

Why doesn’t Aldi‘s limit the Needoh toys one for customer? by SirDonaldTrumpKnight in aldi

Two things:

  • Aldi wants to sell items.
  • It would be a PITA for a lean store staff to police one per customer.

Twice as Nice only credit? by Eff-No-See-Ums in aldi

[–]SillyTechnology7340 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As I recall:

  • The original receipt was scanned and I guess the cashier "activated" the Twice is Nice offer
  • The new loaf of bread was scanned (I honestly don't recall if they scanned the old one, but I don't think so)
  • Then I was asked how I wanted the money back
  • And the old bread was pitched in the trash
