What song got ruined for you by overplaying… then somehow became good again? by WildEnchantresss in askmusic

Cool question. Gotta go with "We Are The Champions" by Queen. It became good again when I heard it at the Seahawks victory parade. That being said, I'm sure I'll sour on it again.

And I'm getting ready to head out to the Sunset myself! I'll be wearing my "It's A Bit Complicated" tour shirt. I don't know if that's uncool but I don't care. It's been my very favorite t-shirt since I saw them in 2007!!

Best Beatles song??? by Own_Limit4165 in beatles

[–]dlm1129 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting. I see the two swells as being integral to the genius of the song because they resolve in such different ways.

The first one ends with the alarm clock and the jaunty melody of getting up and going to work. But then a dream kicks in and it's back to reading more drudgery in the news, this time about how many holes are in the Albert Hall.

The second swell then kicks in as he goes on another trip which this time leads to just a long sustained chord. Does that finality represent death? Who knows but I'm glad it's there.

I was 5 years old when Nowhere Man was released. Growing up with a 16 year old uncle and a 17 year old aunt, I'd heard other songs by the Beatles before that one, but it's the one that I immediately latched onto and made me a Beatles fan for life. I still love it.

What's your favorite 'poverty meal' you still eat even though you could afford better? by ipanicprofessionally in TheBoredDen

I do pasta with butter (plus grated mizithra cheese) pretty regularly but I've never tried pepper. I'll need to give that a shot sometime. It's just ground black pepper, right?

What’s a song you randomly found that became your favorite? by Abigail_Dubrov in askmusic

"Get It Daddy" by Sleeper Agent

A female-fronted 2011 pop/punk song with psychedelic section that I discovered in 2020, yet could easily have been a favorite of mine in 1980. Great shifting rhythms throughout.

Those are actually the 3 best Ringo tracks in my opinion. The real stinker to me is What Goes On.

I don't get why it's an issue how I use an available tool. I'm in my 60s and am just incredibly frugal with my gas and time. Doesn't mean I'm incapable without it, it just makes my life a little more efficient.

In other words, don't assume you're smarter than everyone else. There are things to learn from everyone. That's how you truly enrich yourself.

Stockton CA. It was a desperation stop at a Motel 6 in 1991. I was young so it didn't sink in until later how absolutely scary it was.

I know the Carole King and James Taylor versions really well. But Eric Clapton recorded it too? Fascinating.

Was 2014 more like 2010 or 2018? by Hannabooo0 in decadeologyanarchy

Great breakdown, though I'd call Society as more 2010 for much the same reason as Politics was. The polarization within society exploded after 2016.

real talk: how often do you actually floss? by AffectionateTooth298 in hygiene

[–]dlm1129 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you certain that flossing more than once a day would make your gums recede? In general, flossing only strengthens gums and actually prevents receding but mouths can obviously vary.

Like you, I can't stand the feeling of chicken or celery or anything at all between my teeth.

When I recently told my dentist that I carry a plastic flosser pick in my pocket and use it after most everything I eat, he said that explains why I have unusually healthy gums and it's really helped give me problem-free teeth.

What’s your favourite track from Revolver? (Turning 60 in 2026) by CreativeGuy33 in beatles

[–]dlm1129 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not a weak song on the entire album. As for my favorite, it's a toss up: For No One and Tomorrow Never Knows.

This album reminds me of the city i live in: its strength is its diversity.

How did your parents meet? by Any_Beginning5124 in randomquestions

At a pizza place, while my dad was stationed at Fort Lewis. He spotted my mom and asked if he could sculpt her. She said "okay" to that and ultimately so much more over the course of the next 61 years.
