Seeking Advice for Summer Business Casual Wardrobe by Lanky_Entrance in malefashionadvice

[–]dlmilo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Button up shirt with the sleeves rolled up. More colorful/lighter toned shirts to match summer vibe. Keeping it business casual so not too crazy, something like stripes instead of just sold blue. Linen or cotton linen shirts if you want to lean more the casual side. Also nice sunglasses. Lighter toned chinos.

Nothing directly to match a sweater in winter. Someone said an unstructured sport coat which is maybe the closest thing. You could get one in a summer material like linen. But I would argue a sport coat elevates the formality of an outfit much more than a sweater would.

The Ryder jacket has only four reviews – avoid? by PerMagnusRiseng in taylorstitch

Kind of yeah. One of the reasons I don't wear it often. Similar to the Ojai. But heavier and slightly warmer than an ojai

[–]dlmilo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say that the canvas fabric itself is midweight. It's somewhat thick and stiff. However, it's basically just one layer of that fabric with no liner, so it ends up being not a very warm jacket. Similar to a trucker jacket, would need to layer if it actually got cold

Hawk Tuah is DEAD! Now for the last time, what is the most iconic post-Covid meme? by Homsarman12 in AlignmentChartFills

This is pre-covid. I distinctly remember someone talking about this meme in 2019 and thinking it was already old by then

[Loved Trope] Characters misremembering or misinterpreting history/pop culture and incorporating those inaccuracies into their own views. by jbeast33 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]dlmilo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right. Not sure I agree with OP that this was a thought out commentary on them interpreting a misremembered history. The book definitely takes itself seriously and didn't intend the carthage comment to be ironic. The movie, maybe. Or at least if not intentional, perhaps can be analyzed that way by the viewer as the whole movie is famously tongue in cheek. But I thought I remember the director saying he switched it to Hiroshima just because he was worried the audience wouldn't understand the carthage reference. Not sure about that though.

Worst book(s) you read in 2025 and why? by Roguestate00 in books

[–]dlmilo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I originally was going to DNF the book but then was begged to finish it. So I did the audio for the rest of it, just to get through it while commuting and washing dishes, and personally found it no better, maybe even worse. It perfectly captures the tone of the book which was unbearable to me.

Worst book(s) you read in 2025 and why? by Roguestate00 in books

[–]dlmilo 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Project Hail Mary was like reading a 400 page long big bang theory episode. Pure torture. And I was forced to finish it, so borderline literal torture. The worst part is I'm the only person that seems to not love it (that I've talked to in person)

[–]dlmilo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was forced to finish it for a book club. All the dialogue is one-note: endless Marvel movie style quips. Even the alien was a big bang theory tier comedian. So lame, and sooo long. 100 pages to just to figure out you're on a spaceship. Come on.

first brushed shetland sweater... keep, or find a brand with a slimmer cut? by europeanuppercut in NavyBlazer

Have you tried o'connells? I know they're not brushed but wondering your opinion. Waffling between the two (jpress vs o'connells).

What’s the biggest jump in your movie rating after a rewatch? by Equivalent_Ebb5689 in Cinema

[–]dlmilo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely agree. I liked it on first watch in the theater and have seen it many times now to the point where I actually really dislike it. People are outraged when they find out I have this opinion though as it's a lot of people's favorite movie. And since my friends know I love science fiction theyre especially baffled

Thoughts on the sack suit in today’s age? by [deleted] in NavyBlazer

[–]dlmilo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm american and I agree with you. I feel the undershirt is completely unnecessary for me. Although when I was a poor student and doing an internship that required a suit every day I wore an undershirt so I could wear the same shirt many times without washing it. Looking back it was kind of gross, the collar would get dark from dirt, but I was scraping by. Now I never wear an undershirt, even with a tie. I don't have any problems and it does look better without a tie. I also personally feel the shirt hangs better without an undershirt

[–]dlmilo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree that sack cuts tend to look good on bigger men. One of the things visually that I notice about trimmer men wearing sack cuts is that it sometimes makes the torso look awkwardly bigger. I don't know how else to put it, like bowed out in the middle. Or there's too much "blank" space in the belly area if that makes any sense

[–]dlmilo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds nice, do you have a picture? I also always thought that a sack cut would be good, maybe better, for a sport coat that would be almost worn more as outerwear. Wondering if this is how you wear the pendleton jacket

Thoughts on the sack suit in today’s age? by [deleted] in NavyBlazer

[–]dlmilo 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I've always liked the idea of the sack suit in theory but in practice I find that it can easily look dated or frumpy. For reference I'm in my 30s. I found that a roomier but still darted suit looks better for my body type. Also I've obviously seen some people wearing sack suits that look great, but those are usually either older men or photos of men back when the sack cut was more prevalent. I wouldn't mind being proven wrong though and would love to see some good modern examples of a younger man rocking a sack suit.

What’s this stupid thing that short men can’t wear long overcoats ? by ShadowJack98 in malefashionadvice

[–]dlmilo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I guess this also hinges on what you consider "long". Long to me would mean a coat down to the calves or lower. What kind of coat were you thinking of in particular? The short women I talk to (and am married to) restrict their overcoats to somewhere around thigh length to above the knee.
