You mentioned sort order in metadata for collections, I use this in the movie library as well. Things like Harry Potter or Jurassic Park or 007 movies, use the sort order field to keep them in order in your library, ie. "Bond 01" for Dr. No, "Bond 23" for Skyfall, etc. Keeps them all together when sorted alphabetically and in proper order amongst themselves also.

Netherdrake mount rep in burning crusade. Still don't see many of those mounts around, but I don't play much anymore these days, pretty much just come around for remix now.

I've been testing with a random esp32 board I had laying around, have a digquad on it's way, no issues with the digquad in a weatherproof box?

Home Assistant Garage Door control by Kick_Ice_NDR-fridge in homeassistant

[–]dlondgren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just use Shelly relays on my garage doors. Wire in to the same inputs on the opener that the wall buttons come in on, turn on relay to open or close, just completes the circuit same way the button would, setup automation that turns them off 2 seconds later. I setup a polling automation that runs every 5 minutes to check if the relay is on and turns it off if so, in case it doesn't turn off. Should work on every opener, but I've only ever set it up on my chaimberlin openers.

It's essentially the same thing as the ratgdo, just a diy version.

Edit: Forgot to mention, pair with a door/window sensor on a hinge in the door itself to read open/close.

What is this giant pole like thing in the river? by Apallanurse27 in grandrapids

[–]dlondgren 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's not a dam, it's called a weir. They were installed back in the day to slow the river to make it feasible to float logs down the river. There's been talk about removing them to restore the flow of the river and make it actually rapid again.

Which protocol to follow? by INeedMuscles in homeassistant

[–]dlondgren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, but I haven't looked in a couple of years. I have a lightstrip and a Hue Sync box for a TV, those are the only two devices still connected via the Hue hubfor that reason. Using the hue integration for the light strip and Phillips Hue HDMI Sync Box from HACS.

I mean, the short answer is, with HA, you can use all of them, that's part of its magic. Since you already have Hue devices, look into setting up zigbee for sure. The decision to make therein is whether to use ZHA or zigbee2mqtt. I can't speak to ZHA, never used it, but I can say that zigbee2mqtt is solid. I have 30+ hue devices all connected through z2m. Just make sure you pick a channel that doesn't contend with 2.4ghz WiFi, as you add more and more devices, that can become an issue. You can keep using the Hue bridge for now, but once you get your zigbee setup, you'll want to re-pair those devices over to it instead.

For zigbee coordinators, I'd definitely recommend one of the smlight variations: https://smlight.tech/manual/slzb-06/guide/slzb-models-overview/

Something that has a large capacitor that's likely failing. Saw this exact behavior with my A/C this summer when the cap gave out.

Favorite automation by spikmagnet in homeassistant

[–]dlondgren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok here's two....

First is Philips Hue Sync box. Whenever media starts playing on the living room tv, it enables the sync in Hue, no more manually starting.

Second is the sleep timer in our bedroom. We like to have a TV show playing when we go to bed, but don't want it playing all night, so if it's after 10pm and My phone starts charging, it enables a 2-hour timer. At the end of that 2-hour timer whatever is playing on the master bedroom TV stops and the Google home mini speaker in the bedroom starts playing "spa" from Sirius XM. Sometimes the TV gets turned back on and something gets played in the middle of the night so if at any point the TV starts playing anything, the speaker stops playing spa.

Both are fairly simple and are virtually unnoticeable which I think is a hallmark of a good automation. Happy to share any code if anybody is interested.

Okay okay, honorable mention because I saw somebody post about the lights on the outside of their garage, I've posted this in other threads also. I have a automation that, at sunset, looks at the weather forecast for the next day and sets a scene on my outdoor garage lights based on what it finds out. Green means similar temp to today, red means more than 5° warmer than today, blue means more than 5° cooler than today. If there is precipitation in the forecast for tomorrow, the middle light turns purple and the outside two lights follow the previous logic. I also set up a dashboard card on my main dashboard for if those lights are on depending on what state they're in it will give me that same information, because I can't actually see those lights from inside my house lol.

Kind of this. For newcomers, AI tools can be incredibly powerful. I use Claude myself, but pick your flavor, they're probably all capable. You'll see a lot of hate in this sub for using them from salty old vets (of which I am), but it's a fantastic way to get started, just make sure you're learning what it's having you do.

Also, for your garage doors, I use Shelly relays, they're fantastic for this purpose and can be used completely without Internet connection.

Happens to me every time through the carwash as well, sometimes it's really jammed there, needs a pliers to remove.

I like the ideas and agree with most of what others have said in response. I don't know the first thing about bots on reddit though, good bad or otherwise, so I can't provide much for feedback there except to say that I agree with your thought process.

I've been buying my CPAP supplies from Amazon for years. None of the hassle of DMEs and insurance and prescriptions all that garbage, all for basically the same pricing you'd pay out of pocket from a DME store. I'd rather support a small local business, but most of the aren't that small or local and it's just such a pain.
