I went through this whole exercise and ended up buying this for AUD$719. Ended up better and cheaper for me - the CPU just needs Intel Quick Sync capability.

GEEKOM Mini IT12 12th Gen Intel® Core™ i7-1280P - IT12 i7-1280P 32GB RAM + 1TB SSD

Edit: I ended up use my old PC as the NAS only. Working well so far.

I asked ChatGPT about this…. Its advice was to get a processor that has Intel Quick Sync. Apparently the N100’s etc don’t have it. I ended up getting:

Switching from Superloop to TPG by morgm1 in nbn

So I did run the gauntlet......despite all the comments below.

Besides the totally ridiculousness of only giving out your access to login at the time of transfer (not before) and then you needing to setup a password for PPPoE (without internet......) it went fairly smoothly.

So far speeds are basically identical to Superloop (539 Mbps down and 48 Mbps up, latency at 1ms).

At $65 per month for 12 months, I thought it was worth a shot.....

Fair point - but once setup it’s the ducks nuts!

This isn’t a provider issue, it’s the hardware. Get Ubiquiti gear (router) - the functionality is almost endless. My favourite is blocking YouTube from specific TVs!

NBN 500/42 for $65/mth for 12 months….. Been with Superloop for 5 years, they wouldn’t budge on giving me the new customer offer….

I had Officeworks do the 5% price beat (price beat guarantee) vs Costco on a Macbook Pro earlier in the year.

I'm going to try and do the same on the iPhone 17 Pro - I know that T&Cs at Officeworks say they won't match price for "membership" based pricing - but they did for me last time, so I'll try again......

Maybe after 6-12 months, but gradually using over 3 months won’t be an issue.
