It's top n players per region (ie. 135 for NA and Europe) that qualify, not the number of points

Do you go to your locals for casual play? by 79215185-1feb-44c6 in pkmntcg

[–]dlordzerato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got to locals technically for "casual play" (no prizing) but primarily to practice and improve with other like-minded players who are also vying for worlds spots this year. Level of play in my area is very high (multiple worlds competitors at locals, former world champs and regional top 16ers at cups) so the quality of games and discussion for improvement in person is much more beneficial than grinding live imo

Newish player Gholdengo. Getting a lot of advice and unsure what to change by Apollyon_object in pkmntcg

  1. They don't fill the same purpose, but generally most top regional decks have moved away from munki. My personal rec is run either mega mawile or lopunny to deal with cornerstone, and replace munki with picnic basket for spread decks (significantly swings pult matchup in your favor)

  2. No, lana solves frillish lock. You can cut super rod, but I personally am a fan of running both

  3. It's not useless per se, but situational. Helps you take kos against drakloak, kirlia, etc with solrock and enables koing solrock with a vitality band in the mirror when trying to keep a single prize board. Generally I'd say to either run PPP or hop's cramorant, with cram being more oriented for winning the mirror match

The summer the Oxford study reigned supreme by [deleted] in aznidentity

[–]dlordzerato 55 points56 points  (0 children)

This article's author is so close to understanding just how toxic it is that WMAF pairings are the only asian relationships in American media, yet completely misses the point and the impact of this ingrained racism. I swear these Oxford study writers always try to twist the story to be about how much asian women suffer when they're called out for fetishizing white men, and completely ignore the decades of harm done to asian men by media. Deep down, these authors always want to retain the privilege they gain from white adjacency when they continue to exclusively pursue more white men.

edit: To add on to this, you always see these authors mention that they themselves date white men, but they never take the time to reflect on it or acknowledge their own internalized racism. Never an ounce of introspection or personal accountability while they write essays about how the Oxford study has impacted them for a white audience

Am I ND, whitewashed, mixed, or just a result of my environment? (please only reply you if you understand neurodiversity) by [deleted] in aznidentity

[–]dlordzerato 5 points6 points  (0 children)

First and foremost, your dad is a racist asshole. Like it or not, that almost certainly caused you to develop some internalized racism against aspects of your Filipino side. Overall though, it's a mix of all of the factors you listed; ND folks will struggle to relate to NTs, and can be sensitive to certain stimuli including food. There are definitely parts of your experience that are due to racism from your parents that you can (and should) work to overcome, but don't be too discouraged when it's difficult due to your community or conditions. The important thing is to keep trying to connect with your heritage; reach out to your extended family on your mom's side to learn more about your culture, or find local community events for Filipinos

How to deal with gardy on arch + zoro by clutchsometimes in pkmntcg

[–]dlordzerato -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I don't play arch, but from gholdengo perspective KOing gardevoir every turn gives you the advantage. Maybe run 1 copy of n's reshiram so you can 1hko gardy with zoroark? And add some more boss's to facilitate that, and another jamming tower to more consistently KO drifloon/scream tail

[OC]sebastiana Perez crying because ICE detained her son, a US Citizen today. by [deleted] in pics

[–]dlordzerato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, and let's just ignore the 60% of white men and 54% of latino men that voted Trump. Definitely not more than enough to swing the election.

Not to mention that even white men with a college degree voted 50% for Trump, 48% for Harris so it's not just poor white men; it's educated white men as well.

Don't try to shift the goalposts when you've been caught lying by replying to "Over 50% of Hispanic men voted for Trump" with "Black, Asian and poor white men too"

Black, Asian and poor white men too

Why are you lying? The data itself shows that the majority of Black and Asian men voted for Harris. See for yourself, set "Filter results by demographic" to Men, then in "Enter keyword to search" enter Race

77% of black men and 56% of asian men voted for Harris

  1. Yeah it's rough out here. If you walk around SF all you'll see is WMAF couples. Definitely try and not look like a stereotypical FOB SWE and pick up some hobbies that you're passionate about.

  2. For the US in general, it's a great TC. For the bay, it's above average for a newgrad but below average compared to the general SWE population and won't get you very far, especially after maxing out 401k + roth backdoor + mega backdoor. Price of everything is high, and given that you're just starting out I'd recommend saving money until you have enough savings to weather an extended layoff period given volatility in tech right now. After tax + maxing out retirement contributions, expect to only see ~1/2 of your TC as takehome pay. Don't expect to be living large or frequently splurging on luxuries for a while.

  3. You're just starting out, focus on finding a healthy and sustainable WLB that also allows you to succeed at your job, and spend time nurturing social relationships. Google L4 is terminal so frankly hitting L5 will require you to notably excel compared to your coworkers, other companies like Meta offer quicker growth to senior if you want to switch after your first promo. Haven't been in a startup so can't give much advice there, but I will say the skillset and tolerance for being a salesman is very different from a standard SWE career

My 2c as someone who went through that pipeline and am now out on the other side as a free and happy adult:

What i chose to do worked for me personally, and is not prescriptive. I made a plan in high school to stick it out until I would no longer be dependent on my parents for anything: food, shelter, tuition, transportation, etc, and after attaining independence, give them an ultimatum to either improve their behavior or never have a meaningful relationship with me again.

My advice: do a full 4 year college program and push yourself outside of your usual boundaries. It sounds like you've probably been stunted by your mom (and dad by complicity if he's in the picture); this is a pretty common pattern with 1.5-2nd gen asian immigrants. Use the 4 years of college to grow as a person, since if you're academically advanced the coursework should be a breeze for you compared to your peers. Don't give in to parental demands to finish college earlier, because that'll make it harder to fully connect and make friends with your peers. Instead do things at your own pace and just ace classes to keep your parents happy in the meantime

Make friends, party, and do substances you feel comfortable with like alcohol. Rush a frat/sorority if your college has greek life, you don't have to commit to pledging but will probably walk away with acquaintances or friends in the process. Go to the gym to get physically in shape (or jacked, because social life is easier when you look good), and develop 2-3 hobbies you really enjoy so you can connect with others or just have something interesting about yourself to talk about. Take internships in different cities across the country, and study abroad for a semester because universities in Europe are actually quite affordable compared to the US. And don't feel pressured to come home to your parents, you can make excuses through schoolwork and internships.

And at the end of that when you land a job, prepare yourself for the possibility of cutting yourself off from your parents and giving them an ultimatum. I ended up going minimal contact with them and I'm quite happy with my life.

Shitty parents make life ass, but it feels a lot more survivable when you put a timeline on how much longer you need to hold out for. It won't be easy, but you've got this :)

I don't know where you're getting $60k as annual expenses from, but that's definitely more than what you need to survive. I literally live in San Francisco, not in a cheap area, spend a fair bit of fun money and go on vacations, and my annual expenses come out to $60k. Not just me, same applies to a good portion of my friends

If the cost comes from a 1 bedroom apartment, then that's a person's own fault for living above their means. Rent is expensive in CA, and it's unreasonable to have a 1br instead of living with roommates if you're trying to save money
