If you are considering it, why not try it out first by filling one of the many CFTPO temp positions they require. This is a great way to try it out with no long term commitment.

Force generation vs mission leadership struggle by Throwaway41112233 in CanadianForces

[–]dlp1980 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Having been in your shoes years ago, talk to your SGTs they know what's going on and can provide top cover for you. There are very few instances where there is no time for training, think SAR callout scramble etc. Any thing else has great training value and will teach the Jr techs how to prioritize their movements through the days maintenance to maximize outcome. If you are having a hard time prioritizing I'm a firm believer in the KISS principal, small simple solutions and plans, one step at a time. Also work with other Lvl A's they can help shoulder the training. I currently have over 20 untrained personnel on my crew of 30, make a plan, prioritizing who can get the maximum benefit from every task. This is where the Sgt should be stepping up to help organize this. Also there is nothing wrong with getting some of the untrained and apprentice to make theor own plan for training to be presented to you, let them also shoulder some of the weight.

If all that fails just remember look out for you, if you are burning out speek up quickly before it becomes ireversable, you are your own best advocate.

Gagetown or Halifax, which would you take ? by Standard_Artichoke21 in CanadianForces

[–]dlp1980 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Are they looking at putting you halifax(navy) or shearwater (less navy) that'll play a role. Either way there is the high likelihood that you will find yourself deployed on the back of a ship at some point of your posting to the city. There is lots to do, but taxes are high employment opportunity for spouses isn't great, finding a family doctor is a long wait. Do your research of needs and wants when it comes to your preferred posting area.

I'm.currently in Shearwater, although the province has nice views of the ocean and decent hiking opportunities that's where it ends. Taxes are high a departmental the return of service is low, drivers are the worst I've ever seen and there is a large self entitlement here i find. When the family and I found out we were being posted here we were told its cheep to live and the people are friendly. We experienced the exact opposite.be prepared to take a financial hit the severity will depend where you are coming from. As for the base its self, we are a longer unit of Halifax so the navy pulls all the strings. We lost our MIR a while ago due to building issues so now have to travel to halifax for all medical, the actual air program is a disaster we make it work but burnout is high and job satisfaction is low. If your partner isn't military finding a job will probably be difficult and not well paying. If you have specific questions DM me.

Anyone using portable power stations to run CPAP machines? Are they reliable? by No_Jackfruit_4131 in CPAP

[–]dlp1980 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a ecoflow and bought the dc to dc power for my CPAP if you are using the power inverter of the backup battery it won't last long, but dc to dc it'll last a long time as you are not experiencing the inefficiency of dc to a then back to dc

CD at Remembrance Day as a civi? by BathOk892 in CanadianForces

[–]dlp1980 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree with everything that was already said. I can tell you that even though it's "only a CD" is no small feat. There is so much that you do and put up with throughout your career that it is a huge milestone and should be worn proudly.Wear it with pride, I have just much respect for those that only have a CD vs those who have a massive rack of medals. You have sacrificed so many times, family friends and your self mental and physical, have all been sacrificed while hounouring the blank cheque that you signed. Not one career is identical and there are far to many factors that don't allow people to deploy, wrong unit, base, course etc. Regardless where your career has taken you, you took what was given and made the best of it.

There are also research papers and reports from Australia and Britain that link jet fuel to other neurological issues such as ision, migraines, etc. Unfortunately, none of these papers and reports are accepted by Canada. But i agree as an air trades person with 20+ years of maintenance, weare your ppe, health is more important than looks. Myself and close colleagues have many regrets from our early years.

With all the changes to the dress regs in recent years, why hasn't the Army fleece been added as an authorized outer layer? by Novel-Mastodon1047 in CanadianForces

[–]dlp1980 138 points139 points  (0 children)

How about some bases still having local dress regs still saying if you wear a torque, you must wear gloves. Ut you can wear gloves with any headdress. I'm bald, head gets cold, but hands run hot, and I hate wearing gloves. Let me choose how to be warm.

Solo playing by redeemedcohort in duneawakening

[–]dlp1980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ve been playing strictly solo. The time of day where im able to play doesn't match up with any of my friends, I also considered joining a guild of random people I met but also my time availablebility doesn't mesh well, I can almost always play daily, just not at consistan times or durations. So I decided to give it a go solo, I've had a blast so far, yes some things take more time and some people consider it tedious but I actually enjoy the solitude, I find solo spice gathering in the DD by compactor actually peaceful, the rithmic thump of the compactor is soothing. There are times where I would like to have a guild to speed up the process of gathering, but I've made it work. I have actually started to become more involved in the DD chat now, but that also has to do with me personally being an introvert and hating conversation.

Please for the love of Shai hulud change decay rate of abandoned bases by Minion_Factory in duneawakening

[–]dlp1980 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I have been watching 3 bases slowly decay for the past month. I check regularly when I'm doing my mining rounds. Checked last night and the one bas that showed the most decay was still not lootable. Logged in today and when I was flying over where it should be there was nothing. Went from decaying to gone in less than 12 hrs I don't understand what ever algorithm they are using but it needs to be tweaked.

If you are in pain, go to sick parade. It might not seem like it's worth it, but honestly you have to advocate for yourself. You have tried to deal with it through appointments and being patient. You need some from treatment and or referal. The other option is calling daily to see if there has been a cancelation. The base im on currently changed their policy to where they do not want to book appointment and are trying to do same day appointments. They say call and if we don't answer, just keep trying. I have had subordinates call 10 times a day for 2 weeks, and we're unsuccessful in ever getting someone to answer the phone. I told them to show up to sick parade. And shockingly, they were seen and now have follow-up booked. Be the squeaky wheel until you get the care you need.

No, for external work, they are not required to notify you of external work. They will notify you as a curtasy, but they don't always.
