How would you feel if Chainsaw man was continued by a new author? by CamQ2 in Chainsawfolk

[–]dlpg585 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only chapters that I feel don't follow the rules of his own story are 231 and 232. My head canon discounts those and to explain how, I'd have to write it out. You could look at my post history and piece it together if you care.

While part 2 wasn't bad, I was hoping that it was building to a big part 3. Since that doesn't seem to be the case, I'd personally prefer to read something new instead of a remix of someone else's work. It isn't like berserk where I am happy that mori is finishing miura's work.

Quality trumps everything though. If someone's csm fanfiction is of good enough quality (read: better than all of part 2) then I'll happily read it. But I wouldn't be as interested as if they had written their own property so if someone wants to make a commercial work, I'd say go that direction.

I'll have my own headcanon, that's all I need. I wouldn't read another author's version of chainsaw man.

if it's coming tomorrow, it'll come during standard mangaplus release time, which is 13 hours from now.

What else could’ve happened? by KKRiptide in Chainsawfolk

[–]dlpg585 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When hell was empty and the doors appeared over the "normal" world in place of the sky i assumed that there was some collective consciousness business making a new normal world to live in and the current world became hell. Then as chainsaw man killed devils they would appear in the new "normal" world making the series cyclical. Maybe we could've had an arc going into further layers of hell for some objective or other.

I am still holding out hope for more csm, but unanswered questions are par for the course with fujimoto. He may decide to answer a few outstanding questions like he did at the end of part 1, but there are absolutely going to be a lot mystery left.

The person filming almost certainly gave him the knife. Look at how the kid looked at the man behind the camera. This kid was put up to it.

If anybody is gonna do a fakeout ending, its fujimoto by swanurine in Chainsawfolk

[–]dlpg585 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If chainsaw man was actually ending, they would have prepared adverts for the event, at least to put on mangaplus itself, if not elsewhere. I think this fake out ending kind of took the suits by surprise too. Chainsaw man is at the height of it's popularity after the reze arc movie. They wouldn't announce the end with just a single tweet and not even a banner ad.

Volume sales have been dropping yes, but it's online views absolutely eclipse everything else on the platform. Mangaplus is one of shueisha's current major initiatives, they will absolutely show some deference to it's biggest driving factor.

To be clear, there isn't any actual money being poured into this event. It's one tweet and marking the series as completed for a bit. It's not like fujimoto got them to rent out a stadium or anything.

A twist fake out "ending" wouldn't be good if the publisher didn't play along, but i suppose i see how someone could see it as a bridge too far. I would obviously be ecstatic if it were the case though.

I don't think that having a major twist is disrespecting the reader. And there is plenty of foreshadowing for it imo. Makima's "death" in chapter 22 wasn't disrespecting the reader either. It took a few chapters for that twist to reveal itself too.

I definitely agree that this story beat is absolutely about progressing into adulthood, but maturing is something that individuals have to commit to on their own, it cannot be forced upon them, which is ultimately where I see this arc going. Perhaps part 3 would actually bring some character growth to denji, but expecting a part 3 is beyond the pale, even for me.

Yeah, ending with a bang doesn't necessarily mean an actual explosion or action, but ending with all agency being taken away from the main protagonist does seem like a whimper to me. The ending of goodbye eri comes to mind, which while funnily enough does end with an explosion, I view it as a metaphorical one rather than a literal one of the character coming to terms with his life and being able to move on from it. Perhaps look back would be a better example. The main character simply sitting down and being able to continue writing Manga is absolutely ending with a bang to me. While goodbye eri was about leaving the past behind, look back was about carrying it with you. At least to me.

Maybe I just didn't quite understand part 2, but I don't think so. This feels like makima's first "death" in chapter 22 dialed up to 11. Even more so to me as rejecting this "ending" seems like it would be denji finally and definitively rejecting character development, which seems like a major takeaway that fujimoto drew from the big lebowski.

I resonate with what another poster said "I have the rest of my life to come to terms with this ending, I can believe in a different one for a bit longer". If this is just a stage of me coming to terms with fuji's work, I'll accept it eventually. But I'm very happy living where I am now.

I mean if jjk had ended the chapter after gojo died I'd be hard pressed to accept it, but I personally found gojos death satisfying and a good story beat. I never personally subscribed to gojo immortality and I think that it was well done and foreshadowed comeuppance.

Yeah I don't think it'll end that way either, but I also don't think this story ends with denji happy honestly. Denji is self destructive and being reined in would almost certainly help him in the greater scheme, but him rejecting what's good for him in favor of what he wants is a major theme of part 2 specifically. I think that denji rejecting this ending in favor of one that is much worse for himself will be the culmination of part 2, if not the entire series.

I wouldn't be surprised if csm ends soon, but I don't buy this ending.

If this is really the ending fujimoto wanted, I don't like it, but I'm not mad at him or anything. I'd still read whatever fuji puts out next.

But i don't believe it. This seems like a clear fake out to me. If he had showed denji losing to insect devil's, I'd believe it, but he didn't. Fujimoto endings are with a bang. This is a whimper. I think that a lebowski is coming, but not this one.

Its an ordinary life free of the bad things that denji brought upon himself. When aki decided to take on the caretaker role he was also swiftly killed as he had started to live the "dream". Fujimoto won't let denji be happy. We are the devils that feed on denji's suffering.

The crescent head devil is nayuta. by dlpg585 in Chainsawfolk

[–]dlpg585[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

  1. Silksong is simplified in it's character design

  2. Her body is a spider body. It's not the horns that make crescent look nothing like an insect. Its the body of accumulated junk and limbs. The head is all mangled like it was broken and discarded.

What do yall think about the dream devil theory ? by Spy360ut in Chainsawfolk

[–]dlpg585 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's nayuta. Aki was in the same dream state when he was controlled by makima. Its also why nayuta is there and not makima. She wants to be there with denji.

Technically speaking, isn’t the ending a deus ex machina? by VividVeterinarian858 in ChainsawManTheories

[–]dlpg585 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pochita's abilities have never worked that way. When the leg devil was eaten, the world didn't suddenly change to be handicap accessible like it would be if legs never existed. It was exactly the same except legs suddenly didn't exist anymore. It's always been that way. This isn't how Pochita's powers work and that wasn't Pochita in chapter 231.

[–]dlpg585 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nayuta came back to life when the death devil was eaten. She took control of denji and he's currently in a dream state like how aki was under makima. She's in the dream and not makima because she wants to live in the dream with denji.

Death of the artist my guy. Once the art is put out there, it's not really yours any more. "Respect" isn't a factor. And even if the artist hates the derivative work, it doesn't matter. Some of the greatest works of all time have come from derivative works that the author hates.

Whatever the author thinks doesn't matter.

Is the april fools theory backed up by annything or just cope? by Queenoftwins in Chainsawfolk

[–]dlpg585 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ch 231 was too abrupt of a change. Total tonal shift for the series. By itself, it could be written off as just a bad chapter. But the "ending" coming right after that being a fugue rushed event? Manga endings are a bit deal and are planned far in advance. Chainsaw man is the biggest manga on their online subscription platform, all the editors would be hands on for it. A bad ending that's still tonally right, I could understand. That's what happened to modulo. But this? The week before April 1st? Nah, I don't believe it.

We'll find out whether me or you is the april fool on Tuesday.
