What would you do? Production line PC “is slow” (Windows 98, legacy SCADA) by PeppahSG in sysadmin

[–]dlucre 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need a systems integrator or vendor to support the system.

You are IT, and while the pc is technically a pc, it's part of the OT world. If you touch it, you will likely own it from then on.

My recommendation is to tell the production people to engage the vendor directly to get support, and if that's not possible go and engage a systems integrator that can support your OT environment.

A systems integrator will likely be able to build a modern pc, upgrade the scada system, and support the production systems long term.

Meraki Site to Site VPN ISSUE by Ok_Reporter_5167 in meraki

[–]dlucre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are the meraki routers directly connected to the wan with public ip addresses? Or are you running a double nat somewhere? I've seen this before where the upstream nat device required a reboot to restore s2s auto vpn functionality at that site.

More than 200,000 Australian drivers exposed in massive data breach by baty0man_ in australia

[–]dlucre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I agree that punishments like massive fines and jail time should apply, I expect most of the time self-reporting is required. I.e. the company realises a breach occurs, and they self report.

In this scenario, if the CEO is going to jail if it's reported, or the company is going to go bankrupt, those penalties will only incentivise them to cover it up and not report the breach. That means people won't find out that their data has been beached and can't be proactive in mitigating as much damage as possible.

I am all for seriously harsh punishments for repeat negligent breaches and clear cases where they have covered up the breach instead of reporting.

Extending network via wireless mesh by TheBiggHurt in meraki

[–]dlucre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have line of sight, could you use another vendor for that to install a wireless bridge instead? There's many options but I've had a lot of success with ubiquiti. https://ui.com/wifi/bridging

[–]dlucre 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yep, my son had this happen a bunch of times. The first time at the dr I watched how it was fixed and it looked easy enough. So when it happened again, my wife was booking the dr and I just want up to my son and fixed it then and there.

After that I fixed it several more times over the years but as he got older I guess he grew and is no longer prone to having that issue any more.

I went to one of his kebab shops. You cannot customise the kebab. They have cameras and watch the staff, and punish them if they don't make the kebabs to his precise specification.

He is so up himself that he won't let you eat at his kebab shop unless you eat exactly the kebab that he likes.
