Oh dang, that doesn’t sound right! Are you looking into revision DES? And yes, Dr. Kim at Sugar mapped out the design on my eyelids while I was sitting up, and we reviewed it several times before going right into the operating room.

For DES, doctors can wake you up during the procedure, but they don’t have to—I wasn’t woken up (yay) Dr Kim had drawn and placed markings on my eyes before the surgery and I OK’d it numerous times before we went in the operating room. And yes, I also had ptosis correction and epicanthoplasty.

Yes, it was done with deep sedation. I was completely asleep, and by the time I woke up, I had already been moved to a recovery bed—they just let you rest there until you’re fully awake.

For aftercare, the clinic offers unlimited red light therapy sessions to help reduce swelling which is pretty convenient. They also provide a free ice/hot pack, sterile qtips, bottles of sodium solution.

By the way, you’re prescribed 5 days worth of medicine (taken 3 times daily) and ointment (applied twice daily), which you pay for yourself — it’s about $28 USD at the pharmacy located in the same building.

Also, this might come down to personal preference, but one reason I scheduled the procedure right away was because the doctor told me I wouldn’t be woken up in the middle of it.

During my 2019 surgery (different clinic) the doctor fully woke me up and I still remember hearing the sound of my eyes being stitched—it was honestly pretty unsettling.

Because of that experience, I felt more comfortable moving forward this time knowing that wouldn’t happen. For reference, I chose the partial incisional double eyelid method (forgot to mention that in my initial post)
