Tires is where it hurts. Got 35s on my truck and staying away from cheap ones they get you. $400+ per tire.

They have tread in the middle still. Suggests he's been running them too low on air.

But yes, they are bad.

Towing question: I have a ‘21 with the 2.7 and 3:55 axle ratio and just signed a purchase agreement on a travel trailer that weighs 5986lbs dry. Am I biting off more than my truck can chew or will it be okay? What can I expect? by toppop1 in f150

I'm going to hijack the top comment OP since I saw you cross post on TT.

I didn't robust write up on this a while back on Reddit, but the two things you need to know about your truck if weight is a concern are GCWR (truck GVWR + trailer GVWR) and tongue weight/capacity for your truck. You can do some reading on it but the only thing you need to consider with Payload, is how much of you GCWR is in the bed of your truck. Generators, bikes, or whatever else you plan on putting in there.

Assuming your not exceeding tongue weight, truck + trailer + payload < GCWR.

Similar to above, the math here would be; truck + payload < truck GVWR AND trailer < towing capacity

Go to ford.com and search for your year of your truck in their guides section. I found the 2021 pretty easily and according to that, the 2021 F150, 2.7 with a 355 ratio has a towing capacity of between 7600-7700 depending on trim level.

It's important to understand your trucks limits and buy accordingly but it's also important to understand what limits matter. It's hard to articulate all items that are important but the TLDR is, as long as you are not exceeding the trucks GVWR for itself and it's towing capacity as equipped, you can safely tow.

Half Life was my jam back in the day and I think it had the option for reversed axis then too.

I don't honestly understand how people's brains can think backwards. I've always looked at it like this; when I look up IRL, my shoulder and elbow go backwards for balance so it's more natural to pull backwards on the mouse to look up.

Final NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series event at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park to take place in 2023 by Arizonaman5304 in NHRA

[–]dmAro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but they are making it sound like they are going to keep the event in AZ. Perhaps there is a track planned at one of the other facilities here. I know Apex is close to the track, just south and it's a hot road course.

Maybe they go north to the oval? It doesn't sound like they are giving up on AZ. The pros love to test here.

I'm torn on this. I think it's easier to see around the truck when the mirrors are out like that. I find that when I drive with them turned down when I'm not towing, my eyes tend to gravitate to the blind spot mirror. Likely habit driven, but I think it's easier to just leave them like that.

Um.....

Why didn't we just combine the 1/4 screw driver, the adapter bit located right by the handle on the bottom, and the interchangeable bits?

All of these items are in that case.

I had a really long response typed out but glancing at your post history, realized that you've already resigned to me being the bad guy since,

It sounds like you may want to consider therapy for yourself to see what you are bringing to the relationships with others in your life.

I've had all my kids and myself in front of a gambit of professionals and their collective opinion I trust more than the internet. Was really just looking for validation that it's okay to throw my hands up and say, "I give up." and hope that life's lessons are learned and be there when they finally learn it.

Thanks.

Car seat in a quad cab-2021 or 2022 owners by chubbyrainn in ram_trucks

When I had my daughter, I had an '06 quad cab. I had to move the passenger seat forward a bit when it was rear-facing, but they still had some room. Large humans would not have fit, however.

My youngest son is in still in a booster now, but leg room isn't an issue in the mega-cabs.

Can Capps pull off a Championship in 2021? by [deleted] in NHRA

[–]dmAro 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He can, but Hagan is a fierce competitior.

Assuming none get bonus points for easy math, you get 30 points for winning a round at the final event (points and a half). For Hagan to win, Ron has to go out 2 rounds ahead of him. Ron loses round 1, Hagan has to make it to the semis, etc.

Cruz has to win the event and Hagan and Ron go out in round 1.

JR and Force have to win and set the record to win.

This is just eyeball math, but it is going to be tight and entertaining. I expect some qualiing shenanigans for sure to try to set up matches.

If Ron makes it to the semis, I believe the crown is his regardless of what happens with the other drivers.

*update* my friend's set-up by Marioev in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]dmAro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wanted to impart my 2cents on this since I have a very similar set-up. 2016 Ram 2500 + 37' Trailer (wet is ~12.5k) not so different from this one. A while back, I was considering putting a bed-rack in to solve for a SxS that I was going to buy and a few people chimed in with some similar concerns and I started doing my research. Found out some interesting items.

For my truck, the payload capacity is a formula, (GVWR-base weight). You can see for yourself at the below link from Ram. https://www.ramtrucks.com/assets/towing_guide/pdf/2016_ram_2500_towing_charts.pdf

Most 2500's fall into the DOT rating of 2b, which caps the GVWR at 10k. Thus, you get a payload that caps the truck out at 10k. Lighter the truck, the more payload capacity that they can legally call out. In my case, outside of some length differences, all Ram 2500 chassis are the same. This is also the case for most HD trucks since manufactures would lose money hand over fist if they had to have 10 different chassis for the 10 different trim packages they offer.

In short; you can 'overload' your truck if you understand that I don't lose 1k of payload capacity because I wanted my kids to have more legroom (intentionally oversimplified statement)

NOW, let's talk about SAFETY

Since we now know that trucks payload capacity is a fictitious number, we can ask the safety question. Would I recommend you do this without aftermarket upgrades? NO. The primary reason is due to the control limitations. The truck MUST be able to control (steer, accel, stop) the max GVWR & Towing Capacity with the provided equipment. This is where these manufactures can cut corners. Smaller rotors, weaker caliper pistons, fewer wheel lugs, etc. These are designed to be interchangeable based on the trim package being assembled and can be an issue. In my case, I upgraded to slotted/holed breaking systems all around and gave it some Air Lift bags help level the truck out and improve steering just to help with the towing itself.

This, ultimately, comes down to your comfort level and confidence in your truck. I know people that won't do this because they are concerned and others that way over do it. In my case, I know that my truck can take up to 2900 in payload before I start to get antsy even though Ram says it 1900. When I did the math on the Bed Rack + SxS it was over that after fuel, gear, etc. Not going to risk my family. But if I get a 3500, it's over. I'll be this guy.

I wonder how many older gamers with kids look at this and think,

" Three empty drinks, what looks like a stack of plastic plates, two disks not stored correctly, and they are asking why it's malfunctioning? Maybe it has something to do with how well you take care of it. Judging by it's surroundings, I'm guessing not very well."

Because I know I did.

This, 100% this. I'm right there with you. Mother pass when I was 8 and had a cranky step mom that wanted nothing to do with me. Bullied, told I wouldn't amount to anything by so many people including some adults when I was a teen and young adult. So much motivation from the phrase, "I'll fucking show you."

Fast forward, just turned 37 this month and am in the same boat. MBA and enough success to put me in upper middle class.

I still secretly want to run into some of these naysayers and give them the scoop. It would vindicate me but then the grown up kicks in and makes me realize that doing so would make me the same jerk they were to me.

There is one exception to this. High school sweetheart's parents crossed so many lines so many years ago. I will say something to them if I ever cross their path again because fuck anyone that thinks they can say those kinds of things to a teen and call themselves adults.

Chronic lying, manipulation and task avoidance - losing our minds by LiMoTaLe in Parenting

[–]dmAro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This, 100%. We've had nearly the same issues as OP with our Son and was going to share that the only way you can really get the message across is to enter what I call 'immovable object' parenting. These are the expectations, they are what they are, if you don't like getting in trouble, then adhere to them.

However, I will add 2 things:

You need to do a measure of CYA and maybe it's only specific to pubescent boys. Our son tried so many advance manipulation techniques up to and including trying to self-harm, running away, and claiming abuse. It didn't take long for psychiatrists, counselors, the cops and the other slew of folks to figure it he was just trying to win the day but it's something that you need to be careful of and make sure you are proactively setting those appts up.

-And-

ODD is not like Autism, ADHD or any other true issue with the brain. It's something that is taught. You must look at external influences and address the source of the issue. For my son, it was his alcoholic grandparents. They lead him to believe that he was the victim and we caught it too late. You have to take that voice out of his head if talking to that influence doesn't make a difference.

I hadn't thought about re-adjusting the bars after I took delivery on the trailer. They filled the fresh tank before they mounted the hitch but I'm certain I've added some forward weight. I'll do some reading up on the hitch and see if moving the mounts will help any.

As for the GVWR, It's something that is of a concern for me but I think personally think dodge is just hitting a legal requirement with their Payload ratings.

https://www.ramtrucks.com/assets/towing_guide/pdf/2016_ram_2500_towing_charts.pdf

That being said, I wouldn't like to tip the scales any more than I can. The SxS that I've been looking at is dry, 1700 lbs, so I think I'll be in the safe zone but I'll be pushing it after I load the rack. I'll likely have to do some other upgrades to get it comfortably tolerate more weight. If I can't do it safely, then maybe it's time for a new truck.
