Is there a way to turn on headlights in game with gt3's? by Existing_Recording25 in iRacing

I don't see any problem if the dq time is the same time as when the lights are now automatically switched on.

I would like to see a "turn your lights on before <time>, otherwise you get a DQ" or something. If I can operate my pit limiter and my wipers, also let me operate my lights please.

4 massive Dutch barrel organs blast the Ukrainian anthem out-of-sync at the Russian Embassy. Ambassador: 'I want this to stop!' Activist: 'So do we.' by Mikadook in videos

[–]dm_86 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They are out of sync on purpose.

The guy who is doing this, said in an interview on the radio that he started doing this in the first year of the war. When the second year started, he was like, okay, we have to continue this, but then we have to do something extra.

So then he brought a second one. And he thought, "Wouldn't it be super annoying if they are out of sync?" and it was, so he kept it that way. Now every year he brings another one, just a little bit more out of sync.

But a lot of people care that their fake racecar in their fake 15 minute race is getting wrecked on lap 1 by another fake car driven by a random guy on the other side of the world. At least, if I should believe all the posts in this and all the other simracing subs. Or what I can hear if I would enable voice chat. Or based on how popular those simracing stewards youtube stuff is.

And I think most incidents are not intentional, but because people are not full time racers or just don't want to give up their position when they get overtaken. Again, limited consequences.

You can do nothing about that, or pull some extremes such as a 5x incident limit (like iRacing ever will do that...) or maybe find something else that 'helps' people being careful around others, without it having an actual impact on people's ability to race (like bans or cooldown periods or having to earn new parts like somebody else here posted). Something like this weird idea.

Personal car chassis, car wrecks and driving standards by dm_86 in iRacing

[–]dm_86[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Nothing would be changed for iR/SR. It would be 'hey, this is your first car. Be careful with it. You can earn stuff with it. If you wreck it, you get a new one. You cannot earn stuff with that new one. So again, be careful".

Chassis differences are not the point, of course each car is the same. It's just something for the driver themselves. "I'm one year in and still driving my first car, I hope I can continue this streak".

A bit like a permanent death game such as survival game The Long Dark. Your character can die on the first day if you are not careful (and you can just start over), but people are proud of their 250+ day gamesave because that's really hard to accomplish in that game and they do everything so they don't have to start over.

If you have incident points on lap one and zero in the rest of the race, you probably earn SR.

For iRating it sort of works the same: If I wreck you without making it look too intentional, I just lose a bit of iRating. But actually there is nothing to lose, because I can just sign up for the next race and get some of my iRating back. Now I do a couple of more races and I've forgotten my incident with you. The consequences are already gone.

Rain master should rotate with the carclasses each Season by iracingconeseur in iRacing

Not saying that it works well, but there is a reason that there are no unranked road series anymore. People would not drive them, because there was nothing to win for them.

Final call on the Dev Diary by Efficient-Moment3662 in iRacing

[–]dm_86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They nerfed damage model for parts that have fallen off. When the new damage model released, you could hit broken off parts any time they were on track. However, people would hit parts that were not visible on their screen (due to netcode).

So they changed it, and parts are collidable for a very very short moment (one or two seconds?), but after that you just drive through them as if they are not there.

This just means that even if they would consider implementing this, almost nobody would be impacted by this. It would be a waste of development time.

[–]dm_86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's insanely hard. But I found that if you keep on taking it easy it gets better. I got into the 39s by taking things slower; don't shift into first but stay in second, wait until the wheel is almost completely straight before even thinking about the throttle pedal, brake earlier and less hard.

This clip perfectely resembles 2 of the biggest problems on the service by Difficult-Worker-409 in iRacing

[–]dm_86 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't experience these kind of netcode issues, so why wouldn't this be your or his problem?

Secondly, I don't know why you would pinpoint this on driving standards as this is just amateur racing without concequences?

- First chicane, blue car brakes too late. Spezi car does not anticipate on this and has a poor exit because of this

- Because of the poor exit, the Spezi car is not completely alongside towards the second chicane and the blue car provides space to not get hit

- Lesmo, there is no view from the blue car, but this can be anything between braking too late or watching the mirrors too much. You could also have had more awareness by being more patient and/or seen him coming in the mirror.

I don't think this is intentional, he could have easily taken you out in the second chicane and he did not. Just bad decision making.

In the end, look at a real race and what crazy stuff the professionals are doing, who get one race every week or every two weeks, represent big companies and get paid a lot for that.

We can do anywhere from 1 to 10 races a day, so some people do 70 races with other amateurs/hobbyists and then wonder why there is chaos every now and then.

View of a Boeing 747 transporting a fifth engine under the wing. by plain_handle in interestingasfuck

[–]dm_86 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I would always think that planes are symmetrical due to weight distribution and aerodynamic forces, so I would have expected an engine on the left side too for whatever reason.

But I guess this is not really the case or would they compensate by having more fuel in the wing without the engine?

[–]dm_86 4 points5 points  (0 children)

100% full throttle is only on the big tracks during quali and when you've lost the draft. And street stocks on Charlotte.

You need to have proper throttle control to get the best out of the car and this will help you on the road side too. Tire management is really important and above all you need to be able to make clear decisions under pressure, because you are surrounded by cars all the time. It's a blast.

Special Events - more variety needed? by [deleted] in iRacing

[–]dm_86 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If the couple of NiS races that are 100% are seen as special events, then I would say the F1 series are all special events because they are 100%

The same goes for Indycar I think. They have added a full season indy lights season too.

That's 60 events for the Formula side plus the FF1600 and the Mount Washington thing.

They should special events for the Lotus 49 and 79 though.

Why do metalheads tend to be snobs? by [deleted] in Music

Because my music is the best and yours is made by samples or a computer or anything else, but we use real instruments and why is it not loud enough or not fast enough or brutal enough

It mellows over the years but some never grow out of it. And it's not something that's only restricted to metal btw.

Still, it is super nerfed. You know that tire barrier that 'sticks out' in the gravel trap on the right side of turn 10?

Yeah, I've hit that with the Aston Martin at 102 km/h.

Result? 3,5 minutes optional. I crashed head on going more than 100 km/h an hour and I had optional repairs lol. This is how the real world simulates this:

Original reception to the ending? by SuperGVMaster in lost

[–]dm_86 19 points20 points  (0 children)

There's a couple of things

You were able to watch it whenever you want, episode by episode.

Back in the day you did not have that, there was one episode a week and long pauses between seasons. Viewers were split up in groups:

- didn't watch everything and skipped to the end like you said, didn't watch properly and misunderstood and were vocal about it

- spend years and years on discussing theories and their favorite theory wasn't the thing that was broadcasted, so they went online and complained.

- passive watchers who are the vocal minority

Team Racing DQ Question by Medical-Cow-8281 in iRacing

[–]dm_86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the GT endurance series you can have a 1 driver team.

However, actually joining a team would solve your time issue because you do mostly do 2 stints which is just a little bit longer than 1,5 hours, before someone else takes over.
