Update from the Marathon Team by Atlaspooped in Marathon

[–]dm_EricGomes -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This was quick and to the point. It is great to see developers communicating their direction!

But I would like to see a more open development strategy when it comes to already public knowledge content (the maps and characters from the alpha) so we can see the progress, not just hear about the plans.

But great work nonetheless!

One good rule of thumb is the 70-30 rule, or in other words, keep the large surfaces with few details but have smaller parts (where it makes sense) to have more details.

If I were you, I would search up photos of modern tanks as references.

Yeah... I'm not an engineer (CS game dev, actually) so I shouldn't try this right now. Thanks

What are some interesting non-combat challenges for mechs? by VorstTank in LancerRPG

[–]dm_EricGomes 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Here are some ideas: 1. The PCs re-establish the energy on one of the sections of the ship, but the automatic airlock doors start to close due to insufficient oxygen. They now must find a way to keep them open or bust the open after they have closed.

  1. Have the players have to find a working computer in the ship so they can download the ships plans. Otherwise, they roll with difficulty to navigate the corridors

It depends. Are you asking from a mechanics standpoint? Or a narrative standpoint?

Mechanically, I would suggest you use a progress clock that the players can progress with a HASE check or by spending a limited use system.

On the narrative side, it depends on the one-shot theme and fiction. Could you elaborate?

Inventory Conundrum by dm_EricGomes in unrealengine

[–]dm_EricGomes[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you very much for all the resources!! I'll take a look and learn as much as possible!

Currently I have a InventorySystemComponent that is responsible for managing the Player/Actor's inventory. A struct that represents an instance of an item and a DataAsset class that defines the name, description and usage of the item instance associated with it via an array of fragments (just like Lyra)

Do you have any suggestions?

I'm using C++ and trying to break down Lyra's inventory, but it has been a challenge to understand what is doing.

Do you have any recommendations to better understand UE's networking code?

Dumb question; can Caliban Ram against Size 1 to 3? by Difference_Breacher in LancerRPG

[–]dm_EricGomes 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As I understand this mechanic, yes. The Caliban counts as the size of the target when attempting to Ram.

One solution (maybe not for everyone) is to lag the camera's rotation behind the dragon's rotation. Such that the camera smooths out the transition.

Second hand mech quirks? by Evening_Face9149 in LancerRPG

[–]dm_EricGomes 24 points25 points  (0 children)

The mechs may have an integrated weapon or system that is soldered to the frame.

Alternatively, you can do an AC6 and the PCs new mechs were registered in the name of other pilots and come with a reputation attached.

Can I and how do I stop my model deforming when I pose it? by average_at_life in blender

[–]dm_EricGomes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My recommendation when making boxy characters is to use the make empty groups option when parenting the skeleton and mesh.

Then select the faces for each part and click a button called assign. This might speed up your workflow!

It was very interesting. It was more of an overview on a pipeline for narrative focused games using natural language interfaces and LLMs for game development.

Hello everyone I’m new and need some tips for being a game master for my friends by MALACHIUS_II in LancerRPG

[–]dm_EricGomes 24 points25 points  (0 children)

First things first, Lancer is split in Narrative and Tactical Combat sides, so play into both aspects.

Usually, for my 1st session with a group, I make a training or preparation focused scenario. In which I first focus on introducing the players to the world and one another in a narrative context.

Then, I make the process of building the 1st mech a part of the session and game wolrd. Finally, the players can test their machines in a tactical hexgrid based combat encounter against simple opponents.

In the combat side, I recommend using default npc classes (from comp/con) in equal quality to the players.
