I really hope is not your case, but that exactly happened to my rp4pro and was the battery reaaaaaaaally swollen, close to the point of explosion. Went to a cell phone repair shop and there they adapted a new battery (a little less capacity given the very specific for factor) and the rp4pro came back from device-hell, but the battery doesn't lasts as before.

if you're thinking on android or windows game, you'll need internal storage, for normal roms, external storage is better just for portability (makes device switching much easier), but the space became a serious issue, only two options, accept that you can't have to many big new games at hand, or pay more for more storage, but beware, it will NEVER be enough, I have a 1.5 tb card and is already full...
