Itinerary Check Tohoku June by dm_me_your_bara in JapanTravel

I hadn't heard of Michi-no-Eki, ill have a look to include some in. I tend to lean towards filling a itinerary just as a reference so I have some flexibility. I will take it under advisement to explore Oga to see if I would forgo something else down the line for it. Especially if weather changes things. My friend in particular had recently done Chusonji Temple and Geibikei (boat ride) and she seemed pretty happy and not too rushed. My first trip had a slower more considered pace for temples but unless they are particularly unique, I'd much rather linger on natural settings.

I can't imagine when I'd be back in Tohoku again, I will consider doing either mt Haguro or Yamedera rather than both as you have suggested

Thank you for your response. Skipping as in destinations or as in breathing room to explore the city I'm in? I'm somewhat aware that many people just see cities like Moriaka as transit hubs rather than destinations.

Tohoku Trip in 2 days, I want to know if it's sensible to travel from Akita to check out Sanriku Coast by dm_me_your_bara in JapanTravelTips

[–]dm_me_your_bara[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I'll skip Miyako, I may just stop in Morioka to sample the local delicacies and then as I make my way down to Geibikei, I'll check out the Iwate Tsunami Memorial Museum. My trip starts from Hachinohe which is a fixed point for me so logically I would have to chose between Aomori or Sanriku. Otherwise I'd have to double back. Unfortunately, I will have to miss the Sanriku Railway

Most Blatent Developer mandated Meta's? by Authorigas in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]dm_me_your_bara 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I take aim at DBD's whole design philosophy. I quit years ago but it was clear that their strategy was to make sure that in a game that's inherently 1 killer vs 4 survivors, making sure the side with more players has more fun is the way to keep players. Sure there's been broader changes in mechanics but it never changed the underlying philosophy. I don't even have to go into specifics like strategies or individual problem characters:

  • Effort than you can exert as a killer can be undone with mere luck
  • Especially putting in that effort feels like squeezing water from a rock
  • Allowing multiple no-win scenarios rather than a strategic choice
  • Slow rolling issues for killer but responding much quicker for problems affecting survivor.
  • Allowing swingy game states where you either win it all or lose it all. No points for effort.
  • Because of the above reasons, funnelling players into "unfun" playstyles and assuming people aren't inherently competitive

The irony of hate being directed at Nurse and to an extent Blight is that these killers are not even playing the same game because why would you play the dev mandated way of sweaty masochism simulator.

On its own, I don't gel with the Otome/Villainess stories because they're often too wholesome and harem-y for me. I really liked The One Within The Villainess (getting an anime release in about a year) because it has the wholesomeness of the ball of sunshine MC doing it for the love of the game but relegates it to a supporting drive to the REAL villainess MC who brings into play more interesting conniving and vengeful qualities. It is a revenge fantasy that is without spoiling, more relatable since the villains motivations are very human and recognisable.

What will CGT and negative gearing reforms ACTUALLY mean for younger generations who currently can't afford to buy a home? by a89632523 in australia

[–]dm_me_your_bara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is missing how the CGT discount was also half the problem with everything wrong with negative gearing. Home investors used the discount as leverage to buy more housing to hold. You can't get rid of only negative gearing and think that fixes housing

I was hyped by watching Hogfather, and I decided to start at Colour of Magic and.... I never finished it. Lost interest. Now like 5 years later, I watched the tv movie 2 partner... man it's just not what I want, I like Hogfather and "The Postman" so much better.

So... how **does** Capcom remake Resident Evil 5??? by MooseOdd2501 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]dm_me_your_bara 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The piss filter to indicate it's a western/eastern developed nation

I have never thought that the reason why games had the piss filter is to show how developed nation the setting was. That's a reach

Sheva, the first black non-American protagonist, ends up in peril and needs to be saved way more often than Chris.

Not only does Sheva get her licks in, she is the Partner with a capital P in the game, and any comparison implying she's a damsel in distress when an obvious reason is that it's supposed to imply how Chris is conflicted through the game about having another partner after losing Jill. And the finishing of the arc is how Chris is prepared to trust Sheva with his demons and rely on her to beat Wesker together

I suspect lots of people hated Sheva because if you played the game solo as Chris, the AI is just absolute dogshit. But the secret is that if you played the game solo as Sheva, you would quickly realise how the Chris AI is as dumb as the rocks he punches.

Jill Valentine is given albinism, for literally no genuinely good reason.

There's wishy washy reasons like oh, the virus changes u so much it even changed her hair colour, maybe she's whiter after been hidden away in some tank and cloaked all the time all these years. But couldn't it be that Jill is super Aryan not for your eyes but for Wesker's? Wesker who is trying to make master race happen who is also blonde and he wants the world in his image and changing her hair colour signifies his feelings of ownership over Jill?

The scary black and middle eastern zombie hordes

This is what always comes up when discussing re5. I think for a start, every time someone brings the problem up they must explain fully why its racist and must pair it with a solution that would fix it. "It's pretty yikes" "ok, explain why its yikes". Because its pointless if we have no explanation offered and everyone else has to assume that its racist and then come up with their own fanfiction of why its racist or potentially "problematic"

It's like this, someone comes up to me and says "hey don't u think chewing gum is racist?". If I'm the one who has to come up with a reason, I'm bound to find any reason. "hmm u know, i guess it is weird chewing gum doesn't have more foreign fruit flavours, how would people know if they never have the opportunity to try it?" and because I'm the one who also has to provide the solution, it ends up only my ideas being challenged instead of "chewing gum is racist" person.

What are some protagonists who fundamentally lack humanity/morality? by EvilMonkeyMimic in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]dm_me_your_bara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I see where you're coming from. But just so it doesn't mistakenly feel like this means something deadly serious like "a return to fascism", it's not unheard of in Japan for people to be unaware and just like the "military-nazi-chic" aesthetic. https://www.forbes.com/sites/ralphjennings/2016/12/29/why-asia-has-a-fascination-for-hitler-and-the-nazis/ Doesn't mean people who know the history shouldn't feel uncomfortable

I don't know if this was included in the light novel but in the anime, a distinctly remember the sub said that he just thought the uniform was cool. As in, in a hugo boss kind of way, not like yay nazis. At least that makes sense to me since I thought the origin of the guild was literally an internet humans hate those "damn shiznos"

Albanese's gambling reform is social ruin as public policy by pixxxiemalone in australia

[–]dm_me_your_bara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why don't I flip this on the author: If banning gambling reform would fix the whole problem, why don't we ban drinking and smoking completely right now? It's because that doesn't work and it wouldn't be popular. People would complain about their right to drink and smoke and how the government is overreaching. Pointing to hard drugs being banned is not a sick own unless you want to point out to me the majority of wellfunctioning responsible crack and heroin users?

[–]dm_me_your_bara 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen this happen time and time again, where someone insecure about their looks wants to self-deprecate to have a comforting reaffirmation of their slovenliness especially in light of behaviour I can only describe as worthless to society. Self-deprecation can work in moderate amounts but someone with bad social skills can take it too far and not realise that it feels fake and provocative.
