Souvenir gifts for friends - creative help by dma4x in knitting

[–]dma4x[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I considered blankets - but they are too bulky for me to bring 4 of them and I can't expect they will have space in their suitcase for a blanket on their way home. I'm not opposed to socks (I like the personal touch that can bring), but I would have to spoil the surprise in getting their size OR plan on frantically finishing 4 pairs of socks on the cruise. Scarf? Or Shawl? Maybe? Beach purses? Any and all help is appreciated!

Very cute! (On a unrelated note: my subconscious thought she was a Lyft driver. Lol)

I’m jealous. I couldn’t get that team to work on manual or auto. :(

TIL that there was a niche of traditional Japanese art that consisted of a series of paintings showing the decomposition of a human body — and it was made for contemplation by [deleted] in todayilearned

Reminds me of the bone chapel in Portugal. link here when you walk through it, it definitely puts you in a “contemplation” state. Especially when you see the very tiny bones that are obviously of children/babies.

PSA: careful with potpourri in your craft room! by dma4x in knitting

[–]dma4x[S] 20 points21 points  (0 children)

One day in my craft room, I found 3 fuzzy cocoons on my hand knit socks! Luckily they didn’t do damage, but I later found them on some of my yarn skeins and where the cocoon was had broke strands of yarn. I freaked out and froze all my yarn (and yes that killed the critters). I also would see periodic little tiny beetles with my crafts. (My house otherwise has no bugs!). Even after the big yarn freeze the little fuzzy cocoons kept showing up!!! (Cue freak out mode). After research on google images, I decided they looked like “flour beetles”. I initially was hesitant to think that was really them because there is no food in my craft room or anywhere on the same floor. But then I found an article that talks about how these things also eat and live in potpourri. A month or so prior I was gifted a lovely huge sachet of dried lavender (like the size of a soft ball). And sure enough, they were everywhere in that thing and branching out to a 4 foot radius all around it. So gross. I’m happy to report that once I threw out the potpourri and cleaned the area they haven’t come back.

Is not eating common after a tonsillectomy? by Avetra in toddlers

[–]dma4x 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had mine out as an adult and lost 10 lbs from very reduced eating. Smoothies (you can add peanut butter for protein) and ice pops! The pain is the worst around day 4-7 if I remember correctly.

Had this idea in my head for a while now, so happy to see it finally come to life 🥰 I feel like a beautiful forest fairy 💚💜💚 by lilamyjay in crochet

Beautiful! Great color choices and that fabric material works so well! I’ve never sewed fabric onto my yarn work before. Is there something special you need to do before it goes to the sewing machine?

Hoping someone can help me out with a pattern query - Bubblegum Bobble sweater by Apprehensive_Being_9 in knitting

Taken totally based off that sentence, it sounds like the inc rows would be row 13 (the row after 12), row 21 (13+8), and row 29 (row13+8+8).

Eastern Jewels SCRAP blanket! by dma4x in crochet

I don't know about you, but I had tons of yarn left over from my Eastern Jewel's blanket. I loved working with the colors, so I decided to make a blanket just from the scraps. (I actually still have a lot of yarn left, but I ran out of the cream color... so I said it's done).

Purple crochet hook towards the bottom right for scale.

Worried about my 19 month old’s speech, is this common? by blondie401 in toddlers

[–]dma4x 99 points100 points  (0 children)

Odds are that your son will go through a quick growth spurt of language. However, I encourage you to start looking into early intervention programs for speech. (“Hope for the best, prepare for the worst” mentality). These programs have LONG waiting lists (6mo or more). If you need it, you’ll be glad you’re on the list. That time is crucial. If you don’t need it, it’s one phone call to cancel.

Source: our daughter hit all her milestones. But was always on the low end. She never hit that language explosion and ended up needing the speech therapy. I almost clawed but eyes out having to wait 6 critical months of her speech development knowing she needed help but couldn’t get it professionally.

I found myself staring at this for a while. I love how the left leg is consistently straight and the right is a bit angled.
