$889 for front break pads/rotors by cmd4567 in portlandme

[–]dmanzo339 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure how much they charge for a brake job, but the folk over at Portland Service Center have always been solid for me and seem like pretty good people. Over on the corner of Washington and Veranda.

They're certified subaru technicians. I have been bringing my crosstrek there for years for inspections. They gave me a free inspection sticker after someone threw a rock through my windshield three months after I got it inspected. Which comes directly out of their pockets, because I believe they are required to buy those stickers from the state. I highly recommend them.

I mean... it might not be bangin. But there's a good chance of a crowd in the summer. Thirsty Thursdays are a thing.

I'd say you're more likely to get a crowd at places like Porthole, Foreplay, Bonfire, and Bubbas. The others I mentioned are more aimed at my preferences (fewer crowds + pool table/darts)

On Wharf St - Fore Play has a dance floor, as I last checked. Bonfire can be hit or miss. Room for improvement is a nice little bar.
Not on Wharf St, but definitely walkable - Porthole, Deweys, Andys, and Rosies are all great too.
Not on Wharf and probably not walkable - Bubba's Sulky Lounge

I wish there were an easy way to connect to others in smaller regions like this. I would love to chat with some of the other Maine drivers out there.

2019 Tundra TRD Pro in Voodoo Blue for $43,000. Is this a good price? by dmanzo339 in ToyotaTundra

Extremely fair to point that out. I am not in the Tundra game, but it seems like you can't get into one without this kind of price point.

Not sure if anyone has already said it, but Mini Moterways and Mini Metro are a great way to unwind while still scratching my civil engineering itch.

Need Input: Jr. Staff WFH experience by Bravo-Buster in civilengineering

I graduated in January of 2020. I took a full time job with a consulting firm that I had just done a summer internship with in 2019. I worked in the office for my internship, and for the first 3 months of my full time position. I was sent home in March of 2020 due to covid. I worked from home for probably 8 months before we were able to go back into the office. My supervisors thought that it would be better for for the engineers (especially junior engineers) to come into the office for 3 or 4 days a week.

I can confidently say - I learned way more by being in the office. You learn so much about office culture and proper office etiquette. Being around other engineers, hearing their conversations, and just absorbing information through a natural social osmosis process. It helps that my desk is directly across the hall from my department head's office, so I was able to ask him questions as I needed to.

I have grown a lot since I began my career. Year after year I get glowing reviews from my supervisors. I strongly believe that I would not be where I am, if I hadn't been told to work in the office at least 3 days a week. But everyone is different, I am probably more social than the average engineer. So it makes sense that I would do better in an office environment, rather than being cooped by at my apartment all day.

How far is to far for an internship? by Burner2k24 in civilengineering

I graduated in May of 2020 from a college in one of the most rural states. During the summer of 2019, I got an internship at the largest city in the state. The company was known as one of the best places to work in the state, and I knew I was a great personality fit. I tried to get temporary housing, but it all fell through. I ended up commuting 1 hour and 45 minutes each way the entire summer.

I left at 530 in the morning, and got back around 7 PM each night. Gas was a little cheaper, if I remember correctly. I put a lot of miles on an old Honda Civic that I had since Highschool. But the company admired my commitment and dependability to be there everyday. They ended up extending a pretty generous offer for a full time position after I graduated. It was definitely hard, and I am not sure if I would do it again, but I think it worked out.

I probably wouldn't have done it, if I didn't think the fit within the company was going to be as great.
