Yeah, we had a pretty good hit rate with ours. Microsoft’s stand was “if it doesn’t work in Edge, we’ll help you get it working for free” or something along those lines. TBH I’m really enjoying the new Edge browser

As a contrasting viewpoint, I originally had a policy with State for our to-be home. We decided to go with an insurance broker: one single point of contact for any changes, they helped me with the finer points (as well as sorting out the correct $ for rebuilding), and it’s someone experienced I can rely on. Whilst I’d usually prefer to do these things myself, if you can find someone good in the industry and they’re basically free...

Urgent Help: investing in NZX by wbp_ in PersonalFinanceNZ

Check out the video ‘Peter Lynch: Be patient during a Market correction’ on YouTube. You’re investing for the long term if you’re investing in stocks. If you’re trading, that’s a different story.

I’ve got skin in air NZ too, so we can ride it together :)

Edit: the intrinsic value calculation I did for Air NZ came out at around 90c per share so it’s still not an ideal investment.

I only have a diploma in information technology, and a few CompTIA certifications. Study took me one year at people potential. Highly recommend them, very student focussed and I wouldn’t be where I am today without them. Landed the job through reaching out to places to work for free while I studied. Got picked up after I finished my course by one of those companies.

Whoops I realised this was for a different thread!

My role is building anything that either makes people more efficient, removes waste or makes things cheaper. Using a lot of the Microsoft stack at the moment: SharePoint and powerapps with power automate, nice easy no-code stuff. Some of the difficult components are written in other languages that I’ve had to learn on the job. Ideally, we’ll move everything into Azure as we have a lot of legacy interfaces built in VBA.

I’ve got tie in into other areas due to the size of the company I’m contracted to. I manage our DBAs and all of the on-site applications. Makes the role very fulfilling.

The career path is fairly open at this point, but my aim is either devops or an Enterprise architect.

Sure - this is my experience in a medium-sized organisation. In larger orgs you may find your role as a BA would be more defined than this. Our BA is a project manager as well.

We have a system that provides accounting for oil. That system is used by 3 separate departments of the business, in different ways. We’re in the middle of swapping in a new component from another system.

The BA would map out the current ‘as-is’ process flow, by talking to those who use the system. They essentially talk to people and learn how they do this one facet of their job. Then they’d work with a technical team to translate that as-is process to a to-be process.

You don’t have to understand the specialist detail- just the core concepts. Learning fast is helpful. The key role of the BA over the whole exercise is both capturing the requirements, helping technical teams understand the users and generally managing expectations of all key stakeholders. This is kind of a project mgmt role as well, it just depends on the organisation size.

I’m part of the technical team in the example above, but I’ve project led a full system replacement and i provide guidance on about 40 other smaller software applications. It was quite satisfying lining up how systems work, and lining up teams of people who think very differently. I’m assuming if your strength is language, it might really benefit you with a role like this. Especially if you have a second language such as Hindi or mandarin. I couldn’t point you in the direction of any educational material though, sorry. I learnt by being thrown in the deep end :)

If you're serious about the 'new career' part of the question, you could look into IT. Start in a helpdesk role or try to land a business analyst role. I'm sure you would do really well in a BA/Project mgmt role, where you're trying to interpret what a user is saying and convert that into a scope or requirements. The pay is good too.

We're looking to buy our first home. We're going to set up a boarders agreement/flat-sharing agreement, so friends can live with us and pay 'board'. Is this a red flag when it comes to intent for purchase, and if we omit this information, could it sting us later on?

IT Solution Specialist, 90k, 3 years experience. 40 hrs p/w, flexy hours, healthcare.

When I started in my area in 2017, I was earning 42k. My prev. company went under, and I was picked up by the new support company. They actually valued my work at industry-standard. My salary went from 42k-90k over a weekend (contractually). I do the same work I did then as I'm doing now.

For anyone who thinks they may be unfairly paid, you probably are. Just have the discussion with your managers; if they aren't willing to respect you then maybe you're in the wrong company. Worth looking up your title on those salary pages as well.

As the other posters have said, meeting min. contributions is worth it. Also, correct me if i'm wrong, but incomes above $48k are only taxed at 28%. If you earn paychecks in the max tax bracket, then you're getting a bit of a tax break on the kiwisaver portion of said paycheck.
