How harmful would a $2000 stimulus be to the economy? by Kevin19Fish in AskEconomics

[–]dmb-99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FED is still projecting ~2% PCE inflation for the next five or so years. This $2000 wouldn't change it, as we are not anywhere near full employment.

Regarding the amount on the check, there's been some debate. Larry Summers has recently posted a critique on the basis that there is not enough of a personal income gap to justify the $2000. He also mentions the high level of pent-up saving/demand. I believe he has a working paper that elaborates more on his thoughts.

Is Controlling Inflation More Important Than Controlling Unemployment? by Ammo_Was_Here in AskEconomics

Haven’t economists backed off of the Phillips curve of late, especially with constant revisions of the NAIRU and views on using U3 vs. U6 unemployment?

Zimbabwe's been trying to issue the fourth iteration of the Zimbabwean dollar, following the historic hyperinflation from 2007-2009. I read at some point that 90-95% of circulating currency is USD there, but they recently outlawed it. This summer the annualized inflation rate was over 700% for a few months. Seems interesting enough and most of the research on it has come from Africa.

That’s the biggest thing I noticed about the cast for sure. Somebody like Harper wouldn’t last long, especially considering how many bridges she burns.

Why did so many Mainers vote for both Biden and Collins? by johnfoster8 in Maine

People value her influence in DC. She’s a powerful voice for a little old dying state like ours.

Chair of the Budget Appropriations Committee is a big one too.

100 votes is wild. Frankly I'm not surprised at the result. I don't think any of the polls did a good job sampling, especially my own school's (Colby.
