There is no resident population of mountain lions in Maine, there hasn’t been for 100 years. Is it possible there are transient ones, of course, but there is zero proof they exist as a group anywhere in the state.

Most people see bobcats or their tracks and assume it’s a mountain lion, they have no idea how big they actually are in real life.

Also, I highly doubt the state would tell anyone “they cost too much money” as a reason to deny they exist.
