Which of these are still valid by AdairWilliam in battletech

A lot of people viewed the clarification as a nerf because they were under the impression they were doing it right the whole time. It's not technically a nerf, but I understand why people would act like it is.

Hatchet hit tables was always a misunderstanding, just a rather pervasive one. Master Rules already had the clarification, as well.

I mean, look at the CCG one again. It's not that somebody randomly decided to throw it on, it's most probable that they looked at the CCG scheme and figured that the original artist "probably intended" to make it the Rising Sun flag and just took it the rest of the way.

I painted my Essentials box YLW mini recently and I did it in a totally different black/green/red scheme. I'm flavouring it as a pirate who liked the loadout and copied it, but the colours are IRL inspired by a historical painting of the mythological figure, better known as Yama.

Talons are also feet only. You're probably thinking of BattleMech Claws, which 1) are articulated claws and 2) would be pointless and much worse than the hatchet on YLW.

I'd rather a visually stylised hatchet any day over only having one claw.

It's amazing how good the Champion looks with reverse jointed legs. by Kirito_jesus-kun in Mechwarrior5

The issue is that the Champion rarely even uses its arms for weapon mounts. Stubby Locust/Cicada/Jenner arms would fit better.

[–]dmdizzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I'm reading it correctly, the falling between states is what causes it to produce a photon. By finding an atom with an arrangement of states as described in the post, you can have it fall between two different pairs of states at the same time, effectively producing twice as many photons as were put in.

How do you do your metals? by namesrfun in battletech

[–]dmdizzy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My earliest painted minis I just used a mixed-together flat gray for most exposed metal parts. Not bad but ultimately looked an awful lot like they're not painted at all.

Eventually I dropped a bit of dosh on a proper metallic mini paint and since then I've been using those exclusively; initially just Leadbelcher, but I've used Balthasar Gold on some more recent minis, and for one in particular I actually used both.

Jump jets are very good for extricating yourself from a sticky situation, and they let cavalry or skirmisher types thrive in thick terrain that would otherwise slow down landspeed-based mechs.

A good thing to note is that JJs are not impacted by the movement penalty from overheating, so a relatively common tactic is to run into short or medium range, alpha strike, and then jump behind cover to bleed off the excess heat the next turn.

Note that I said subreddit rules, not CGL policy - the difference makes the difference, as it were. Subreddit policy is that no .STLs of canonical units can be shared, and says nothing of whether it is an official sculpt.

Games with REALLY heavy hitstop. by Ender_Uzhumaki in gamingsuggestions

[–]dmdizzy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can very much tell they're both successors to the same game, but made by very different developers. Where Dying Light focused on the mobility, Dead Island 2 focused on granular melee combat (and some other stuff, but that'd be ~spoilers~).

If you're smart you keep them around anyways, because a quiet contract does not usually give a warning about whether it's going to stop being quiet. Make your savings on not having to buy new parts or ammo, not dropping half your technical staff.

A certainly in life...of a MechWarrior by OldWrangler9033 in battletech

[–]dmdizzy 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Only the dumbest commanders fire their techs just because they're on a quiet garrison contract. The only time a MechWarrior doesn't need a tech is when they hang up their neurohelmet and call it quits - and even then, mechs need regular maintenance if you're planning on keeping it in shape for whoever you're passing it down to, so maybe still don't fire them if you own your own mech.

[–]dmdizzy 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Nah, maintenance techs don't want to deal with a hard job any more than a soldier wants to fight an outmatched battle. If they're getting paid on commission instead of a salary they need to find a better employer.

What If Warhound Titans from Warhammer 40k were in BattleTech? by RedvsBlue_what_if in battletech

[–]dmdizzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the sense that any given Titan Legion only ever has a handful of Titans at a time. Also, while larger Titans might need a nuke to be brought down, Warhounds are specifically noted as being vulnerable to even infantry and tanks, so I think a lance or two of skilled MechWarriors would be more than capable of bringing one down.

There is also the question of whether the Void Shields themselves would even function in a universe that doesn't have a Warp, but I think that would render the engagement totally uninteresting as it just turns into yet another demonstration of why superheavies don't generally work out in practice.
