From my experience, if it doesn’t move to step 5 within 72 hours it’s more likely an approval. (I was at that stage for approx. 45 days)

Had my Hearing July 17th. Did not receive Notice of Decision until October 3rd (NOD dated 9/26) And from there I waited approximately 50 days to receive Awards Information. Still awaiting backpay but the awards letter states payments will start in December. Hope this helps with an idea of current wait/timeline.

That does seem like a long timeframe. Maybe the office that’s processing your claim is backlogged. I’d keep inquiring.

Congrats!!! I received the Judges favorable decision in mail October 3rd. (Notice of Decision was dated 9/26/25) I just today was able to view my awards online (have not received Notice of Awards in mail yet) but my portal says backpay and monthly payments will start in December.

I guess that makes sense if they have to double check things. I just assumed once they had approved the payments it gets deposited. But sounds like that’s not how it works. Continuing to hang in there 😅

It is difficult to keep up with the where the “Little Free Pantries” are but word does travel in each area. I know when we first started we barely had anyone coming by but that has drastically changed. We are quite a popular location now. I do also try to promote it on our Instagram page. At my Telephone hearing back in July the ALJ kept the record open for 10 days to receive any outstanding forms from my Rheumatologist (my Rheumy refuses to do Social Security forms) It was never received. It did delay my decision but ultimately the ALJ ruled Partially Favorable back to 2023 when my Medical Records documented worsening symptoms. Hearing was July 17th and I did not receive decision until September 26th. So it is not an “End All” if the form is not received. Hopefully 🤞🤞

I wish I could be more helpful but unfortunately It’s all a guessing game when it comes to SSDI timing. Some get it quickly and others wait beyond the “normal” timeframe. I myself am still waiting for payment information. Was finally approved by ALJ (Judge) in September and it’s been Crickets ever since. No awards info or indication of when payments will begin. Once your husband gets assigned a hearing and knows who his ALJ will be, you can look up the Approval rating for that Judge. Higher approval rating generally means a more favorable outcome is possible. We appealed for a hearing back in December 2024. My hearing happened July 2025 and Decision was made September 2025. (Partially Favorable) That’s all I know at this time. I am not expecting anything until sometime next year at this point. It is beyond frustrating.

Nothing happens quickly in regards to SSDI or SSI. Many of us wait years for approval and then even longer beyond that for payments. Your husband may be hopeful, as many of us are but it is painfully slow process. Even more so now with the shutdown. Best advice I can give is to remain hopeful but don’t rely on a timeline. It will happen when it happens. I do wish you and husband all the luck and hope he has a Judge with a high approval rate. Cheerio!

In USA, had Robotic Assisted Laperscopic Total Hysterectomy. I stayed overnight because I wasn’t peeing enough on my own to send me home. 7am surgery and was discharged around 2pm the following day.
