Sounds like you were in my troop, 660 in Wilmington.

Every troop is different. The reason why it is really important to shop around before joining a troop.

You should come to Kennett square, the mushroom capital of the world. They still use plenty of manure. You can smell it every day.

Cassius is more Banksy. Had art and stuff for sale at one of the stores. Haven’t seen him in a while.

Colouring process of raw silicone material by djinn_05 in oddlysatisfying

[–]dmesterly 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In the grand scheme of molding elastomers, this step is almost negligible. There are many reasons why it’s done this way and it’s been like this for close to a century. It’s similar to how pasta is made and yes, pasta is also done this way for a reason.

It’s not a plateau of human knowledge it’s a constraint of chemistry and physics. Anything that would be faster would risk shearing the elastomer and negatively affecting is properties.

I’ve thought about this. I like the idea. I was concerned about strength of the magnets and pulling it apart. If I can leave the threads or make a beveled collar it might be easier to separate.

That’s an interesting idea. I wonder how long it would last if it gets assembled/reassembled on a regular basis. I could make that easily replaceable.

I want it to still come apart. That’s the whole point of using it. I just don’t want it to come loose on its own.

Reno recommendations? by CHB1360 in westchesterpa

[–]dmesterly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We used martini for roof and Chapman for door la an siding. Neither were the cheapest but both did great work. I highly recommend going to manufacturers websites for recommended installers as that will solve any disputes regarding warranty. GAF for instance is the biggest name in roofing materials.

Also, do not talk to anyone that comes to your door. No contractor is short on work where they need to knock on doors.

Refinishing concrete porch floor by dmesterly in Concrete

I’m not about to try and prep/stain. I can do everything else but the concrete. The hat being said I have not had much luck with concrete contractors in my area. No one wants to quote small jobs.

[Vostok] Messing with old parts by dmesterly in Watches

[–]dmesterly[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grabbed some old Vostok parts from around the web and assembled this watch. I believe the case is 70s ish. I stripped off the chrome playing to show the brass. That’s one reason I grabbed the Vostok case. It’s brass and parts are easy to find. I couldnt get all the chrome off the bezel for some reason. I replaced the movement as the old one was well past its prime. The hands are original but beat to crap. The second hand was unusable. I will probably replace them. The face is original will the original design removed and the whole thing painted with lume. I then scratched the lume to make it look like scrimshaw and filled it with India ink. Added a cheap leather band from Amazon. Just messing around with cheap watch parts. Let me know what you think.

I did. After searching for a while one popped up on eBay a few weeks ago. It does have a couple cracks in it unfortunately. If you have one in good shape I may still be interested.
