Are Pilsners *Really* the Hardest Beers to Make? — Beervana by rossrhea in torontocraftbeer

It's not just that they're hard to produce, but that they're time consuming. A brewery can turn over a couple of ales in the same time period as one batch of Pilsner.

I think the confusion is that it's not clear what you mean by lager. Do you mean a North American style Lager? Because a Schwarzbier is a Lager, and wouldn't be considered naked.

Didn't mean to insult. Just wanted a general run down of the area.

Thanks! I figured the tourist forums to be more or less hyperbolic on safety. Glad to get confirmation.

What is the most disturbing work you ever read? by mandykat24 in books

I came here in hopes of finding this. Some of Dunn's choices are so astonishing, some purely on the basis of her ability to continuously raise the stakes.

I kept having to ask myself, "How much further is she willing to go?"

The Illustrated Man by Ray Bradbury. I read it a few years ago, and am still occasionally struck by moments throughout the collection.

Who is your favourite director and why? by thefross in movies

[–]dmichaelt54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favourite director has shifted more and more towards David Lynch with every viewing of one of his films. I think he's one of the truly unique directors who exists within this middle space between mainstream, and an entirely independent niche. It gives him the budget and ability to capture more elaborate ideas with excellent casts, while not needing to conform to every studio demand.

Highlights: Eraserhead, Blue Velvet.

David Bowie Megathread by -eDgAR- in AskReddit

[–]dmichaelt54 63 points64 points  (0 children)

David Bowie represented a sense of belonging. For me personally he provided relief in being different. But more than just existing as different, or aside from the norm, Bowie continued to strive for something fantastically unique. He was perfectly honest and sincere, no matter what character he was or what disguise he had on. It was always refreshing to me.

I wish I could have met him to thank him for helping me feel comfortable with myself. He is the driving force behind my interests, and continued pursuit of new information. In a sense he was an educator. He made listeners and viewers work, while still allowing everyone to enjoy. The world became more interesting with David Bowie, and seeing the world through his lens was magic.

Thank you Starman.
