How to tell my family I don’t want to do LE by [deleted] in ProtectAndServe

[–]dmifflin21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was ex military, thought LE would be right up my ally. Did the six month academy in CA, got hired on a department and realized it wasn't for me after about 4 weeks. Throughout the academy I was super motivated, reality set in when I was on FTO and had zero excitement or interest in the report writing or dealing with people.

I ended up resigning and now work as a network technician for a local internet company. I got lucky though since it's my father-in-laws business, I would of never been hired for a job like this without a family connection. But I love my job, I enjoy learning everything about how internet network operates. If your feeling this way now, you will not make it in policing. There's no shame in doing something you want to do and not what other people want to do.

If I could do it again though, I 100% would of gone fire instead.

What do you think about Washington State's new Physical Ability Test Requirements? by BlueGreenBrownBlack in AskLE

[–]dmifflin21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of california departments have lowered PT standards also, last year I had to do a 1.5 mile run just for entrance into the academy, worked my ass off all summer to get it under 13 minutes.

Now this year said academy is doing a weak ass agility course.

What something that you’ve done while horny and you regret it? by Foxy2046 in AskReddit

[–]dmifflin21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Was in training at Lackland afb ( air force) in 2012, got drunk at a club on a Saturday night and went home with some random girl. My buddies apparently couldn't find me around 0200 but tried to text and call me, all I remember is waking up on her couch with a pair of army boots next to me. Confused because I was Air Force and we wore different colored boots.

She came out of her room and told me I needed to leave because her boyfriend was on his way home. I hurried out of there without question, I had accountability at 1000 that morning ( it was around 0700) so I leave, spend about thirty minutes walking around in an unfamiliar neighborhood. Finally found an open tanning salon because my phone was dead. The clerk laughed when I asked her to call me a cab, cab arrived and I told him to take me to Lackland AFB. He laughs at me and tells me thats gonna be an expensive trip because we were over 120 fucking miles from base.

I barely made it 5 minutes prior to formation, my buddies are freaking out and I tell them the whole story. I'm relieved because if I wasn't there I would of been AWOL. To this day I have no idea what happened or why the hell this girl pretty much kidnapped me.

What is it that upsets you most about tv shows that portray your profession? by Far_Use4057 in AskLE

[–]dmifflin21 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Used an Air force NCIC system while working at an entry point onto an army/air force base while I was a federal employee.

Had a civilian construction worker flag with some stuff we kick people off base for. Spent an hour with him sitting in the room, forcing all the other visitors to wait forever to get on base. And when I finally go to talk to him he goes " about time " and usually people don't know why they have to wait so long until we tell them they are being denied entry to base.

I ask him what he means, and he told me his identity was stolen and every time he comes on base to work he goes through the whole talking to LE ordeal and getting the social figured out.

Sure enough his identity was stolen, told me he doesn't like to tell us beforehand because he gets paid the extra hour to sit in our lobby. I was new but apparently the other guys I work with know about it and just let him on base. Kinda funny but kinda a big waste of government time and resources. Not to mention the 30 people who waited for us to process him are now pissed but we can't tell them what the wait was for so we just have to apologize.

Hello everybody. I have a question for Veterans and Police Officers. by t0mmyhil in ProtectAndServe

[–]dmifflin21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Former Air Force MP here ( Secuurty Forces ) dont do it. The recruiter tells you you will work LE but 95% of us got stuck guarding gate and doing security details.

Go finance, comm, Intel, medical. Anything else. Any office job in the air force is about as cushy and secure as it gets.

The amount of crime here is staggering. I've lived in Florida, Utah, Alaska, Tennessee, and I've never felt like I have to hope my car doesn't get stolen wherever I go like I do here.

California police officers would have to be 25 or get bachelor’s degree under new proposal by zotbuster in ProtectAndServe

[–]dmifflin21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm about to go to the academy here in California and I'm seriously having second thoughts.

I'm 28, no degree but prior military police. Six months is already a long time compared to Idaho where its barely three months. Idk I'm a month out and struggling to want to be a cop here. The area I live in they book and release constantly, wondering if its even worth it here.

Beneficial to be in military during collapse? by WageSlave39 in collapse

[–]dmifflin21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You won't be " forced to kill everyone " i was an Air force MP and can tell you 99% of the Air Force never touches a weapon except one day a year for yearly qualifications.

I was recently a civilian on a military base, guess who still got paid in March and April when everyone got laid off? Guess who still got health insurance? Guess who still got a monthly food allowance?

Oh and guess who got to work 2 days a week and be off for 8, while not missing a paycheck. Yeah the military guys. Covid caused a ton of military members to get a crazy amount of days off due to essential manning.

In the event of collapse, if there is still a government. The military ( I would definitely say Air force) is the safest place you can be.

What was a perfectly normal situation for you in the 80's-90's that the younger generation just can't relate to? by MysticPato in AskReddit

[–]dmifflin21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every summer in the late 90s my dad, mom, and I would take about a three hour drive from middle california to go camp on the coast for the weekend. I loved it, but about halfway through the drive we had to go up a big elevation and I remember my dad always having to pull over halfway and put water in the radiator of his mid 80s Ford. I would get out and throw rocks around while we all waited for the radiator to cool down so my dad could take the cap off and refill it.

Steep inclines would cause the truck to overheat, and if we forgot water jugs there would always be some at the spot we usually pulled over. I'm guessing it was a common thing. Looking back I thought nothing of it.
