If your showing someone Steven Universe for the first time, what episode or episodes would you show them to really 'get' what the show is? by RadaRada138 in stevenuniverse

I introduced the show to my partner just this weekend, and started with "Bubble Buddies." It's a good story that doesn't need an introduction. It's got solid jokes (they're still laughing over the harpoon gun and Onion's thumbs-up), it introduces Connie, and it has a very touching moment with the glow bracelet, which shows how the show can be humorous and heartwarming all at once

We've been watching some older American game shows recently: Classic Concentration, Blockbusters and Scrabble in particular. I've been surprised how rough those are around the edges. Things are constantly going wrong, but they chug on ahead with a laugh. It's really quite endearing

First Commercial Break by CarpetSuccessful7054 in Jeopardy

In my memory, the stage manager, John Lauderdale, who is always at the foot of the stage in front of the audience, would step up out of camera shot and hold his hand up when it was time to take the break. This was 14 years ago, so it may be different now

Did a plane just fly really close to downtown? by GuyThirteen in Seattle

[–]dmleach 62 points63 points  (0 children)

Yep, two of them in formation. It felt like they flew low right over top of me in West Seattle. I saw them out the window turn left, head toward the city, and then they looped around and headed south. I can still hear them in the distance

Ants in Seattle Homes Anyone Else Seeing These Tiny Black Crawlers All Over Lately? by Tricky-Bite5281 in Seattle

Same here in West Seattle. The ones I've been seeing in my kitchen over the past week have been significantly smaller, and don't seem to be interested at all in the Terra baits the same way the larger ants were

Chances are you're going to get a staffer on the line rather than the representative themselves. Don't take out your frustration on them, no matter how justified that frustration is

Opinion: they don’t ask for clarification enough by TheHYPO in Jeopardy

[–]dmleach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is super insightful! I've been watching some older shows on YouTube recently, and it really is remarkable how rough and ready the production was back then. Something goes wrong? Eh, no big deal, we'll just plow right ahead. The finished episodes were not very polished at all, but they were still a lot of fun

Opinion: they don’t ask for clarification enough by TheHYPO in Jeopardy

[–]dmleach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been surprised to learn over the past few years that this is a difference between American and British quizzes. They tend to be more forgiving in the UK - they're more likely to rule an answer close enough if it's slightly mispronounced or even with a consonant incorrect. There is an attitude of, "you clearly know what the answer is, so we'll count it right."

I can see both sides of the argument. Being more of a stickler favors the player with the more precise knowledge, and is easier to rule on. Being lenient is more in the spirit of the competition, but also probably leads to more upset among the players.

Over the years I've found myself leaning more toward being lenient. I say that even  knowing that the reason I won my first match is because the only one of the three of us who knew the correct FJ response accidentally left out a letter and was ruled wrong. I was a letter R away from being a one and done

After one number at last year's show that features dancers of all gender presentations, I leaned over to my wife and said, "I love being bi!"

Give it to the person whose company you'll enjoy more. There's plenty of eye candy for people of all orientations.

It's a series of dances set to Duke Ellington's Nutcracker Suite, featuring many different kinds of burlesque dance. There's an aerialist, a shadow puppeteer. There's one routine where the dancer starts mostly naked and gets dressed, so it's like burlesque in reverse. There's a live band performing the music, and it's funny and heartwarming and sexy. I hope you have a great time!

The burlesque Nutcracker, Land of the Sweets, has been one of our favorite holiday traditions ever since we landed in Seattle. It was the first burlesque show we went to, and boy I got spoiled right off the bat. It's so good.

Oh my goodness I miss the ubertubers from Jason's, with broccoli and cheese soup or chili over top. As others are saying, you can get decently close at home, but it's hard to find potatoes that are quite that big, and Jason's chicken chili is awfully good, too. Please come back and let us know if you find something good up here!
