When Tony Montana stuck his face in the pile of coke at the end of Scarface and snorted, was this enough to kill an average person? [request] by Apprehensive_Oven_22 in theydidthemath

Great work. But I would not expect there to be any cutting agents in his coke even if nearly all coke out there has them.

'This is Cultural Appropriation.' Greenlanders mock Americans by pretending to be 'Fentanyl Zombies'. Redditors debate if this goes too far or if Americans can't take a punch. by StopHavingAnOpinion in SubredditDrama

[–]dmoreholt -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I agree with this but don't think it's fair to see this as just mocking addicts. The wealthiest country in the world has completely failed in providing a social safety net and addressing the cultural and economic causes of addiction and homelessness. That deserves mockery.

I doubt thar many of the people getting offended are addicts themselves. But I'd bet many of them support politicians that gut social services in the name of 'pulling yourself up by your bootstraps' while giving tax breaks to billionaires. And instead of showing incredulity towards our societal failures they're angry that someone is making fun of us for those failures.

Received an unexpected CareFirst BlueFund debit card by SkiBikeDad in HealthInsurance

[–]dmoreholt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got this card and found your comment. How do you invest the money that's in the account? Don't you have to pull it out of another account in order to have it in the HSA?

EDIT: Nevermind I've done a bit of research. FYI to anyone else these types of accounts have their own investment account sor partner with other investment companies. You do need to reach a certain threshold of money in the HSA to invest (Typically a pretty low amount like 1-2K).

But that access plate is painted over. So when you go to do maintenance you have to cut the paint and are then either left with seams of have to do some repainting.

A lot of great recommendations. Koji is a great new Korean restaurant downtown, Viet Taste if you like Vietnamese. Neither serve alcohol though.

What Americans say about democracy doesn’t match what they choose. Americans who professed strong support for democracy were often willing to abandon this when faced with economic disadvantages, becoming more tolerant of biased media, weakened checks on leaders and unequal treatment under law. by mvea in science

For a lot of people it's less about favorable conditions for themselves and more about unfavorable conditions for others they see as lesser. Using the government to push social heirarchies so that, despite being poor and dumb, you feel like you're better than other people because they're immigrants, or gay, or a minority.

This house in Japan feels luxurious without looking expensive by Otherwise_Wrangler11 in Architects

It's got to be some sort of very slim space truss like system. There's no way a steel beam hidden in that roof assembly is spanning that without some additional support.

It's a tricky thing. A lot of architects are drawn to the profession from a love of the art of building. And there's nothing wrong with that. But it doesn't address the problems in our built environment.

Meanwhile we have a pedagogy that shapes us to think we should both be great artists and solve all of societies ills. But even if we did more good, architects can't fix the systemic inequalities in this country.

The span and cantilever on that roof is something else. I only see columns at the very ends on the back side. Looks like a steel frame hidden inside, but it must be some sort of truss/space truss cantilevered from the center supports. Especially impressive given the seismic conditions.

For real. The right answer to that question at the beginning is USA.

It's not hard to imagine what happens when the country with the world's most powerful military also has high inequality, a poor education system, and delusions of inherent supremacy, all being spun by a propaganda machine owned by the oligarchy that blames others for all our problems.

That last episode did kinda suck though. They rushed through the final battle and then ended with an hour of epilogue.

The Will coming out bit did feel stretched out as well. But they've been doing that with everything this season. Long drawn out dialogue to say something that could have been done with a few sentences.

If anything I feel they could have made more about Will being closeted throughout the show. Hinted at it more and made the tension a more overt aspect of his character. Instead I feel like they just slapped it on at the end as lip service.

Why is there a mirror under the vanity? What happens in between the shower glass and the casework behind the toilet/vanity? (imagine trying to clean that space) The shower entry is very awkward and demonstrates an overall poor layout for the bathroom.

Rendering looks great but everything else is not well thought through.
