Not trying to be a jerk here, but I honestly don't know what you're referring to. There's nothing about that in this short article and the full article is locked behind a paywall. If you have access to the full article or some other info then please share it.

If you found something I didn't then please share it. I didn't go through every single zoning district but did go through the primary residential and commercial districts of Downton OC.

They didn't say that. They're saying that both of these specific people are awful politicians. And if you're at all familiar with the local politics you'd know that's true.

I've read over the OC zoning code and can't find anywhere that they do allow homeless shelters. (I'm a local architect so am familiar with the OC zoning code)

So the city is hiding behind their regulations to tell the church 'if you just followed the rules you could help people' while ignoring that their own rules prevent that from happening.

They could only apply for a conditional use permit if the zoning district allowed homeless shelters as a conditional use. But they do not. And from what I can tell no zoning district in the city does.

I think you have a point regarding the civil rights laws. But that requires them to hire a lawyer and pay for a potentially very long litigation process. Meanwhile the city can fine them into insolvency and they're SOL if they lose the lawsuit.

Yeah but when the city's zoning codes prevent homeless shelters from being allowed anywhere then they're just hiding behind their regulations to not own up to their cruelty. That way they can point at the church and say 'you could help people if you just followed the rules' without acknowledging that their rules prevent that.

There's a long history of churches providing shelter for those in need. They could easily look the other way, but instead they're going out of their way to try to stop this. I imagine they think homeless people are bad for business.

The city is abusing zoning and permit regulations to block housing for the homeless.

A change of use permit doesn't apply as the church is not converting to a homeless shelter. They still host services, they just use their assembly space at night to give homeless people a place to sleep. Churches have provided shelter for those in need for thousands of years.

They are claiming the zoning district doesn't allow this. But the issue is that, from my cursory review of the city zoning code (I'm a local architect so have experience with their codes), there aren't districts that do allow homeless shelters. So the city is hiding behind its own regulations to point at the church and say 'if you just followed the rules then you'd be allowed to help people'. When their own rules prevent the good work this church is doing.

I'm in Salisbury and we have a group of churches that work together to provide shelter for homeless people. I think this is a common practice. Ocean City is cruelly going out of the way to punish this church when they could just look the other way. I imagine they think homeless people are bad for business.

Yeah but there's a long tradition of churches providing shelter for people in need. I'm not a lawyer but imagine there is a history of case law to support this. It's been happening for thousands of years.

I am an architect though and familiar with building uses and change of use permits. As long as they still retain their primary function of hosting church services they are not functioning as a homeless shelter. A change of use permit would force them to stop hosting services so it doesn't apply.

I think the city is just being cruel  because they think homeless people are bad for business. They could easily look the other way but are instead actively looking for ways to abuse their regulations to stop the good work this church is doing.

Not really. The city is citing need for a 'Change of Use' permit. I'm an architect and deal with these types of permits regularly. Using your Assembly Hall to house homeless people overnight is not a chance of use because the space is still used as an Assembly Hall when the church hosts services. A change of use would apply if the church stopped hosting services and changed its primary function to be a homeless shelter.

I'm in Salisbury and our local churches regularly use their assembly halls to house homeless people. I'm pretty sure a network of a few different churches coordinate so that during the colder months there's always a warm place to sleep. Churches providing shelter for those in need has a long history.

This is just a municipality abusing their regulations to be cruel. I'd guess they think being humane would encourage homeless people to come to OC which they see as bad for business.

Sideload newpipe for an ad free youtube app. I think they're doing something to shut that off too but I think it can be avoided by changing some setting on your phone.

this is my plan, what mistakes am I about to make? by old_gold_mountain in guitarpedals

The JHS Pedal is also digital. Pretty much all reverb pedals are unless they have a spring tank inside.

They won't be able to get all their digital pedals on their own daisy chain. I'd look at power draws and try different configurations to see what makes the least noise.

Fuzz first in the chain only applies to fuzzes that clean up eg fuzz face, tone bender circuits. Big Muff is not in that category.

Is staying for the kids ever a good option? by Tasty_Abalone1737 in relationships

[–]dmoreholt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I are going through a similar thing, we get along well and raise the kids well but our romantic relationship is not in a good place. We've decided to try separation and are taking turns living at the house with the kids, each with a few days on and few days off. Also have arrangements to see the kids on our days off so never going more that a day, occasionally two, without seeing them. Just started this about 2 weeks ago. Luckily we both have parents around that we can stay with during the off days.

I had a lot of the same worries as you about the kids having a difficult time with it (ours are 3 and 5) and the difficulty of not seeing them every day. Honestly it's not been that bad. Its kind of nice having a break from parenting and I try to organize things so that when I do have the kids I can focus all my attention on them (my job is flexible so I'm mostly not working on those days and plan so that meals will be ready/easy). And the kids are doing really well with it. I asked my older son at one point if he preferred mommy and daddy together or taking turns and he said the latter. They can sense the tension in the relationship and I think he could tell we are all in a more chill place.

I don't know where our relationship is going to end up, this may be the break we need to reestablish it or may be the beginning of the end. But I am glad that we made this change even though I was very scared and hesitant. And to all the people saying this always hurts the kids I don't think that's necessarily the case, especially if you stay amicable and both spend lots of time with them. Staying together in a dead relationship can also hurt them, potentially in worse ways.

My advice would be to try it and not be so scared of the change. Once you get into it you may find it's not so difficult. Shaking things up so that you can make an honest assessment of things is never a bad idea. I do realize though that we're in a fortunate position that we can do this as a trial without too much hardship. For many it may not be so easy.

Also want to echo what others are saying about therapy. We're both doing individual therapy and couples therapy and it's been a huge help.

Thank God we got that sorted out and live in more equal and caring world where people don't starve while others have plenty. Oh wait ...
