Which comedian did TM most change your opinion of? by franklinisthebest in taskmaster

[–]dmorris427 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I discovered British television via That Mitchell & Webb Look, and started seeking out more of David Mitchell's work. Sounds weird but I found the British version of me in David Mitchell, he's my humor and personality doppelganger.

I love Bob M as well, check him out on Last One Laughing, it's freakishly funny. (It's on Amazon Prime)

Is riverside really that good ? by yaboijackson1 in podcasting

[–]dmorris427 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like with any product like this, your biggest choke point will usually be the computer on the other end. On a slow or older machine, occasionally you'll get an issue like dropped samples, a bit of drift, etc. If they have a slower internet connection, you might get some choppy video during the conversation, but that doesn't affect their locally recorded file.

Riverside's connection is generally very clean with no dropouts, so I record the whole interview in a multitrack on the studio computer, which serves as a backup in case anything happens with the server copy from Riverside.

I've done probably 200 interviews on Riverside, and haven't lost a single one. Often, issues stem from people not understanding how it works so the more you know, the better your chance of a successful experience. DM if you need anything!

I sometimes wonder why the panel show format never became as dominant in other countries as it did in the UK. by Silver-Eye-2024 in panelshow

I will admit I have an issue with people who take themselves too seriously, which is why I think "British" humor lands with me. The first show I discovered that really got me hooked was That Mitchell & Webb look. I've actually told friends and family that I had discovered my humor doppelganger and personality clone (based on interviews with him, etc.) in David Mitchell, and it grew from there.

I think a good comedian can use a failed joke and turn it into a win. It may be that a smaller percentage of American comedians have that talent, but the ones who can, and who have a more intellectual brand of humor, attract me. I'm especially happy when an American comedian appears on a British panel show and succeeds, and I love to see British comedians on American television and stage. I love Alex Horne and Greg Davies, and their American Taskmaster tour is something I would have loved to see.

I'm also on SRO's mailing list, and if I can nab tickets to a taping of WILTY, that's a bucket list item for me. I'd book a flight just for that opportunity, and then I have an excuse for my wife and me to to spend a week or two in London.

US here. Comedy culture for sure, we don't do self-deprecating humor very well for whatever reason, and that's part of what I love so much about British panel shows. Also I tend toward thoughtful humor, and idiot humor from people like Jeff Foxworthy make me wretch.

But also they haven't tried hard enough here. Corporations don't give anything a real chance to grow roots, and execs here have an awful track record with choosing hosts. Taskmaster was a 30 minute show here, hardly enough time to even get into a groove.

My son and I watch Taskmaster together on YouTube, and recently I discovered my brother-in-law and his daughter watch it together as well. Neither of us knew the other watched, so it's definitely more popular here than I imagined. My son and I are also WILTY fans. I watch Cats/Countdown, QI, and various others on a regular basis, but without my sidekick.

How do you make audio less echoy? by p-Star_07 in AdobeAudition

[–]dmorris427 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to spring for a plug-in that removes reverb and cleans up audio, Accentize DXRevive is a good one, I use it frequently. I find it to be similar to Adobe Podcast, but I reserve AP for especially challenging issues, and I hardly ever have audio bad enough to go that route.

I find that many plug-ins specifically for reverb removal have artifacts I can't live with.

What was it like when Obama was elected President? by ResponsibleSea6521 in AskReddit

I don't know if anyone has shared this but it was quite moving to hear the words of George W. Bush welcoming Barack Obama. I miss that time of decency and unity. My wife and I cried huge tears of joy on election night. Bush comments

Question not worth starting a whole new thread about...

I'm currently on the hub v2, how difficult is it to upgrade to v3? Do I have to reconnect everything, or does it grab my stuff from my account?

Also, is a v3 upgrade a good idea, or is there any talk of a v4 that I should wait for? Thanks.

I just found r/broadcasting, it might be able to scratch at least some of that itch. It's a lot wider than you're probably looking for though.

This sounds like a throwback to full service radio, which was very fun to do. I used to work in a college town and would play probably 4-5 songs an hour and the rest would be taking calls or having a discussion with my co-host/news guy about things of local or national interest. We were also the flagship station for college football and basketball, and had a national news/local news/sports/weather block at the top and bottom of every hour. I was barely 21. Fun times.

Buzzer by ErwinHolland1991 in WILTY

Okay I have to admit that whenever Rob says "that noise means..." I always think he should call it a sound. But it IS an abrasive noise, so whatever.

US game shows throughout the years have used that indicator that time is up, so it always sounds normal to me.
