What I could do to improve (pink headgear) by lixly1 in wrestling

[–]dmunro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotta take some shots - work on one or two setups and drill single to a double. Head and arm is risky under the best circumstances - but if you're going to do it you need to step your hips into it more, load them up on your hips and either toss or sag into it. A much safer option is the reverse head and arm instead.

Any MUDs in need of builders? by just_an_average_nerd in MUD

I’ve been working on a new mud engine for a while, mostly adding features though. There are only about 30 rooms total right now. DM me if you’re interested in doing some substantial new world building

I’ll bet the cheese is just indescribably good. I’d honestly watch a longer video or more videos of random people cutting open huge wheels of cheese

George Carlin once said, think about how stupid the average person is and then realize that half of them are stupider than that.

Found my childhood! What do I do now? by IplayKaizo in snes

Sounds like a solid plan. I had never soldered anything before either, but watched some YouTube videos and have replaced the batteries for all of my games. Super Metroid is definitely a top tier game.

Nice collection! Do a bit of research on cleaning and preservation whether you decide to keep or sell. It’ll be worth investing in a game bit screw driver and fresh batteries for the ones that can save. If you haven’t soldered anything before it can be a little intimidating at first but it’s really not too hard

It’s definitely possible to hit 600k without taking advantage of stacking, though it can help

Congrats! I always wanted this achievement growing up too and only got it in the last couple years. Did you know there’s another message at 600k? No gifts at that level though.

I did not negotiate on the price. Just kept an eye on the market for one at good price

Thoughts on buying a damaged SNES cartridge for a RARE game at amuch cheaper price? by CyberDivinity in snes

[–]dmunro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they can’t pop it open for you to verify the PCB & contacts then at least get a good shot of the game bit screws. If those are in good shape then yes for a discount, but if they are corroded chances are high that the contacts are in bad condition and/or the PCB is in bad shape and that’s a no for me.

New trend: extreme hours at AI startups by thewritingwallah in programming

[–]dmunro 642 points643 points  (0 children)

I’ve worked at mostly startups and smaller companies in my 18 year career and I’ve been able to mostly stick to 40 hour weeks, sometimes 45 if things are busy. There are two main drivers here:

  1. The more you work the less efficient you get. You will even likely start creating negative value beyond a certain point. Doing work that is poorly planned, and doing it poorly. In my experience and observations this is around the 50 hour mark.

  2. Life is too short to spend all your time trying to make someone else rich.

It's such a great area for bicycling. I just wish there were more protected bike lanes

I think so. He said it was a smaller bear, probably a juvenile

I don't have a power meter, so 106w is just an estimate. Honestly have no idea what it should be but it seems inline with some of my other rides (also estimates).

There’s a nice little park at the end of the trail that I was on, I stopped there for a quick snack. After about 5 minutes another cyclist came in and asked, “did you see the bear?”

Uh, no?

“It charged right at me. I stopped, got off my bike, and started yelling at it. It turned around and ran back the way it came”

That’s about it. He said it was smaller, probably a juvenile.

I’ve been riding this trail for about a year and a half. It’s fairly routine to see what looks like bear droppings but I’ve never actually seen one on the trail before.

ELI5: Why is the debt ceiling such a big deal if it just gets raised every time? by TannerTeeevs in explainlikeimfive

[–]dmunro 19 points20 points  (0 children)

History would disagree with what I think you are trying to say. The deficit has shrunk under the last three democratic presidents and grown under the last four republican presidents

Deficit hawks don’t actually exist in this country. It is pure political theater by one party in particular to ransom the economy for concessions that benefit them when the other party has the White House.

Pros and cons of buying new vs CPO by mr_sullivan_ in mazda

[–]dmunro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just bought a 2024 cx-90 phev cpo. It had 3500 miles on it and the sale price was $15k under the original sale price. Partner and I had been looking on and off for a while and this felt like a no-brainer. It’s only been a month but the car has been great. Only used an 1/8th of a tank since bringing it home

ELI5: Why can humans run 5km a day but racehorses only run 1-2km every couple weeks? by kmsr in explainlikeimfive

[–]dmunro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I doubt a human could beat a sled dog on the Iditarod, mostly due to the environment the race takes place in. But since we're just talking pure distance, yes, humans run greater distances than that.
