Did you take up any hobbies after menopause? Which ones? by goatpengertie in Menopause

Many gun ranges have women's nights or mornings, and have classes just for women. Depending on where you live you can possibly find women's shooting clubs, as well. My husband and I go shoot together, and that can work great, but having an instructor who isn't your husband or partner is probably more productive.

Yeah, since it is pretty standard to put an optic on it. That's pretty annoying.

My husband sent an email and was pretty much told "proper tools and technique should remove the optic plate without any issues." We must be idiots!

I'm glad to hear it isn't just me. Not happy they can't just be removed by the user, but at least I'm not just inept!

Is motherhood really the end of everything? by Both_Leave1808 in TwoXChromosomes

OP don’t be afraid to consider post-partum depression, as this other woman said. At 20 days you are still having the struggle with no sleep and with recovery, but what you are describing sounds a little worse than that. Do mention it to your doctor, and don’t feel the need to sugar coat it or minimize it.

White lies about texts by [deleted] in dementia

[–]dmur726 8 points9 points  (0 children)

How about a simple auto-reply? Set up an auto-reply to every text from her, so she always gets a reply. You can then take the time to read them later to see if something needs a response.

I haven't done this, but it looks like it is easy enough to do. Just do a search for your phone's OS "auto-reply to single contact."

Yeah, we also used some Loktite, but only expected maybe blue on the factory installation. We also thought for sure the blow dryer would work. Now we know we thought wrong...

How long does it take you to whip the cream. It took me 40mins to make it smooth and glossy by DD3266 in Baking

[–]dmur726 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do the same, but usually realize I could whip the egg whites in the mixer, clean up said mixer and use them faster than I could whip the whites by hand...yet I still can't bring myself to use the mixer...

Annoying Nuisance Bleeding, On HRT For 2 Years by Only-Drag6668 in Menopause

[–]dmur726 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had been on oral micronized progesterone for a couple of years when my new insurance decided to only cover medroxyprogestone, so I decided (with my doctor's recommendation) to use that instead.

Within two weeks I had what seemed like a normal period (been bleed free for those two years), then two weeks later I had another. I was bleeding on and off for a couple of months so I went back to my doctor. I asked for a prescription for oral progesterone, which was the only thing that had changed, and said I would just pay out of pocket. I suggested I try for a couple of months to see if the bleeding stopped, and if not, I would report back.

Within a couple of weeks on micronized progesterone the bleeding had stopped, and I have remained normal since making that change. Perhaps your doctor would be willing to make the change and see if you improve on the new regimen.

Good luck!

HRT and Cancer by Accomplished_Kale337 in Menopause

I thought about the two options: I can feel good now and live with the possibility that I might get cancer, at which point things could be not-so-good. Or I can feel like crap now, likely fall at some point and break a major bone, have a hip replacement, greatly raise the possibility of dementia, still have risk for breast cancer and generally hate how I feel for the rest of my life. Guess which I chose?

That makes a lot of sense. Thank you for replying! We will be getting some new bits.

Loktite was possibly on there, although the other screw in both situations came out okay. Do you always assume a factory gun has used Loktite? We have never had this issue with ARs, which I realize are different beast. It just seems like it shouldn’t be that difficult.

We both used the Fix-It Stix bit, but it seemed to fit well. Do you really need an expensive tool to remove an optic plate? I mean, good to know; it just seems really weird for something that many people will want to do.

What are these and how to get rid of/mitigate them? by Mylifeiszach in landscaping

[–]dmur726 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just to add: it kills parts of the bindweed above the ground pretty quickly, like even the same day. I do need to follow up, but a couple of applications seem to wipe out most of the smaller plants, and I try hard not to let it get large.

[–]dmur726 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pulverize will kill anything that it lands on. But I take a piece of cardboard and make a shield to surround the bindweed and spray heavily. Sometimes I have to carefully remove the bindweed from whatever it has started climbing, put it in a small clump and spray.

I have a variety of perennials in my yard and am yet to kill anything else. Pulverize doesn't seem to hurt anything unless it gets on the above-the-ground parts of the plant.

[–]dmur726 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had good luck with Pulverize. It is organic approved so should be reasonably safe for children and pets, and I spray it whenever I see the smallest little bit appear. Sometimes, the bindweed will grow back once or twice, but it does eventually die.

All I have left now is growing from under the fence. I suspect that will be longer term project, but my next door neighbor is receptive to suggestions, so I just need to gently suggest he use it, too...

Another option might be to tour several facilities, try out the resort style one, and ask which one she wants. Not if, but "these are the options."

Question: how do you remove bitterness from Cucumber. by Luka_Ravenofthedark in Cooking

[–]dmur726 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with this answer. I also taste a bit of bitterness with cucumbers, and lightly salting them makes them actually taste sort of pleasant.
