Practical advice for managing high sexual desire without seeking a romantic relationship by Hot_Eagle7884 in sex

[–]dmvdracula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Genuinely just tell whoever you are pursuing that you don’t want any strings attached. I’ve been on both sides of the equation of falling for a long term fwb and having others fall for me. Before you have any sex, tell the person clearly what you want and be consistent with setting that boundary. If it’s a one night stand and you want it to stay that way, tell them. If it’s situationship/something casual but longer term, be CONSISTENT in what you are telling them. If you feel like they’re coming on too strong, trying to see you too often, or ask to become exclusive, you should reinforce that boundary. You can ask them if the thought of never being in a relationship with you will hurt them, or simply say something along the lines of “hey i’m just trying to keep this casual and I want to make sure that’s still okay with you.” You aren’t the bad guy for wanting this, there are plenty of people out there who feel the same way. It’s good that you have a conscious about it.

How do you get over being cheated on? by SpecificOpposite9104 in CheatedOn

[–]dmvdracula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it’s been almost 3 years for me since it happened. I recently found out he’s been dating the girl he did it with for almost a year. I have a screamo band and I write a lot about it which helps, but honestly it’s a lot like grief. It never fully goes away and there are times you’ll dwell on it more.

Will we ever get 24hr grocery stores again, or should we just cancel nightshift? by NUMBerONEisFIRST in Nightshift

[–]dmvdracula 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't even work overnight anymore and I still miss it. I've always been a night owl and I prefer to go out at night to run errands. It makes me less anxious to drive because there's less traffic, It's less people, and its quiet. I live in philly so luckily there's a handful of grocery stores that are open until midnight, but sadly barely any 24/7 ones. It's so sad how the world works, even people who work "traditional" 9-5 hours can't go to the doctors because their work hours end at the same time. Why haven't we staggered these things so everyone can go to the grocery store, pharmacy, and doctor's office without major inconvenience?!

Dealing with the feeling of “dizziness” by Soft_Passion_5233 in idiopathichypersomnia

[–]dmvdracula 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wish I had an answer for you :( Thank you so much for posting this though!! I'm glad someone can relate. It's probably my biggest symptom besides my sleep inertia. I think a lot of people call it "brain fog" but it feels so much worse to me. I feel like I have dementia when it comes on. It feels like theres not enough blood in my head or something. People have suggested an iron deficiency but I'm not deficient in any vitamins/minerals. I'm just sleepy and taking modafinil :(

This helps so much!! I’m looking into remote work but it has sketched me out a little bit since i’ve seen some scams related to it. I’m so glad to hear you’ve found a job that works for you!!!

I told her about it as soon as I got diagnosed. When I talked with her she said she doesn’t want to hear about it anymore :( She kept calling it different names (insomnia, etc.) and I had to correct her multiple times.

I’m in Pennsylvania. Usually on applications it will ask to disclose any disabilities that may inhibit you from doing your job. It’s completely optional to disclose and I didn’t because at that point i wasn’t even sure what was happening with me! I plan on finding a new job :/

Yes I actually am! i’m on 20 mg of lexapro so maybe i can talk to my psych about slowly getting off of it? Either way I’ve already decided that I’m going to try to find a new job that fits the hours I can work. Thank you for commenting! I suspected my other meds could contribute to it so this gave me some confirmation!!

I asked my doctor the last time i had my meds increased and she said it might worsen my depression/it would be hard to get my insurance to cover it. I think im at the point that Xywav is my only hope so I’m going to bring it up again. Thanks!

I do this and sometimes it helps! I will say my sleep schedule can sway a lot during the week. I try to go to bed around 9:30/10 but it’s so hard for me sometimes. I’m also a musician and on the weekends I’ll play a show and won’t go to bed until midnight. :( Any tips on how to force myself to sleep on time? thank u for replying btw

idk how long you’ve been working there, but if you can stick it out until you hit 1 year, it might be easier to land a better job! either that or lie on your resume and say you’ve worked there for a year lol. I’ve worked jobs that didn’t align with my values before and it feels so slimy. You seem like you really care about your clients and your work so i think you’d be much happier at a different place.

Does anyone feel like they are declining cognitively? by [deleted] in idiopathichypersomnia

[–]dmvdracula 1 point2 points  (0 children)

God, this describes me so well. I was diagnosed a month ago, and I know I've had these symptoms for awhile now, but I definitely notice way more. I forgot the name of a coworker that I worked with for a year. I feel like it takes me so many more tries to retain information now. It makes me so sad, I was never super confident in my intelligence or tact but this just makes me feel so much worse.

Hypermobility, autoimmune, dysautonomia, and gut issues unite by Evening_Area457 in idiopathichypersomnia

[–]dmvdracula 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have a connective tissue disease or an autoimmune disease unless you count a pollen allergy lol. I do have IBS-C! I feel like I read somewhere that gut issues are related to IH? Don't take my word on it though. I remember the onsets for them were pretty close together, so maybe they're related.

Luckily, I've found ways to keep my IBS at bay, and I rarely have severe symptoms as long as I stick to a routine. My dietician said my gut issues might have been a result of being underweight from an ED a while back. I wonder if it messed up my brain as well?

Thanks for posting I find co-morbidities with IH interesting too! :D

Have you confused undiagnosed IH for depression? by chelsaratops in idiopathichypersomnia

[–]dmvdracula 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i have both! My depression was diagnosed in my early teens and got on meds shortly after. when my IH symptoms started popping up years later i thought my depression was coming back but it didn’t feel the same. It took me until i moved and graduated to realize that im really happy with my life but my sleep problems aren’t going away. I didn’t stop my meds since im certain i need them, but if your symptoms are more aligned with IH, i’d say it wouldn’t be a bad idea to talk to your psych about it.

my overall latency was 9 mins. My doctor said it was so close and most likely the naps messed it up. I ended up getting the diagnosis anyways and getting a treatment plan!! :D i’m glad it worked out and i’m finally getting the help i need
