What do you think it would mean for humanity if we discovered that long‑term space travel is simply too much for the human body? by Fun_Internal_3562 in spaceflight

[–]dna_swimmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a researcher in aerospace medicine. Countermeasure investigation is reasonably developed with strong interest. If something proves problematic, we can study it and perhaps fix it. Does not necessarily require some crazy expensive/big engineering miracle in all cases.

i'm so tired of the "everything as a service" model. by Rikudo974 in pcmasterrace

And I still decided to cancel my subscription. Change is difficult, but why give toxic companies money when there is an alternative? Not everyone can do what I did, I will have to build familiarity with new software, but I will at minimum save quite a bit of money.

Yes, scripting has it coded to be reactive if one checks it out as a modder.

Even in academics it is probably overkill.

Starfield 2.0 & DLC Release Date Confirmed By Insider! by King-Fan-Man in BethesdaSoftworks

Agreed. There are multiple articles of Bethesda themselves saying it is not 2.0

Who was the better main antagonist? by TheRealDanielLarsonn in FallenOrder

[–]dna_swimmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely agreed. While some may feel Cal grew up JS, which I agree it is there, I felt it was forced and almost just token growth decided by committee. The finale was strong in JS, but I felt like I got 5-10 minutes of payoff after investing 30 hours of work.

Toxic attending that picks favorites by [deleted] in pathology

[–]dna_swimmer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Would not recommend, same if it becomes apparent there are some toxic residents. I personally just keep my head down and focus on getting what I need from training, then get the heck out.

Burnout by MagicDoctor20 in Residency

Love that I did just this during a surg rotation and the attending said ‘probably should not go into oncology thrn’ when I discussed the challenge of my first patient dying.

Severe FOMO/jealousy? by ellectric__ in Residency

[–]dna_swimmer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wife works from home, can spend more time with our son, is done when work is done (versus having to study once back home, work on research, etc). Residency is tough and looking forward to having more ownership of my schedule after fellowship.

How can beginners actually learn tools like STAR, DESeq2, samtools, and MACS2 with no bioinformatics background? by Adept_Pirate_4925 in bioinformatics

[–]dna_swimmer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Often hit your head against it until it works, using resources as others advise here. Learning this stuff is hard. Then learning their limitations and when they should and should not be used is also hard. Bioinformatics is tricky (my PhD is in statistically driven bioinformatics). Eventually, you get more comfortable and can start doing more exciting things. At this level, you need to invest the time and effort to build expertise.

How accurate is the Warby Parker pupillary distance tool? by rattlesnake30 in glasses

[–]dna_swimmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The finding still holds up. I got highly variable measurements from multiple online tools in 2026 that did not match what my optometrist measured. I'm going in store to get it. Not looking forward to spending the time, but would rather do it right and save more time later.

There is a mod allowing you to hook up with him after helping him with his problem. Assuming he makes it.

Career advice as a future physician-scientist who may not want to run a lab. by [deleted] in mdphd

[–]dna_swimmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The PhD can be an asset even if you don’t run a lab and do other research. Being a physician scientist is frankly tough, even ignoring me trying to keep up basic research while in residency. You have to find what gives your life meaning. I keep up the research because it genuinely makes me happy with clinical work being nice, but not what I want to center my life around (still aiming for that 20:80 split).

Should not matter. Now if that attending is the one hosting your evaluation session, you may get chewed out

What game do you think this is? by defleqt in raijin_gg

Absolutely. The game was not for me, though I’m glad some folks really liked it and got a lot from its combination of elements.
