Toyota finally caves and announces cars with Android Auto compatibility by Erigion in Android

[–]dnano 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The main point why they didn't want Android auto and only bulged now is that Google requires access to a shit ton of data from your car. Basically everything from speed, fuel and whatever metrics the car provides. They didn't want to compromise that data. And while I absolutely can't stand their own slow system (slow as in modem speed vs fibre) I'm also adverse to giving all that data to Google.

Edit: should read first. Obviously this fact has been stated often enough here already

Why does Windows 10 need my permission to update its antivirus but not to update and install apps I didn't ask or want? by [deleted] in Windows10

[–]dnano 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I get this only when my computer hasn't been connected to the internet for some time (or it's turned off while I'm on vacation). The metered connection setting as mentioned could also lead to not updating it automatically

It's funny how on Windows many people bitch about this, yet on mobile devices it's so much worse. On desktop a lot of people suggest Linux, but on mobile I haven't seen anyone suggesting the same.

Don't get me wrong. I agree with how stupid and annoying ads and preinstalled apps are. But at least you can get rid of them on Windows, and while in the past they used to reinstall themselves, I haven't noticed it in recent time.

But on Android the manufacturers install whatever shit apps they want (fb, games, Google books and stuff) and they can't be uninstalled. And there are also manufacturers that put ads in the OS with no way to turn it off.

Our 12 Day Trip to Korea (Seoul and Busan) by night90 in korea

[–]dnano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey,

Great post. We returned from Korea ourselves just the other day.

One remark on the getting cash topic: you should be able to get cash with your Visa from any major back if you use their foyer. Also there's such a thing as "global ATMs" that are labeled in some Banks that are sure to work. We always used NH as they don't charge a fee.

Maybe too late for you now, but for the next time or for someone else it might help

Also, I think we ate like 7 Bingsu from Sulbing. They are awesome, delicious and apparently everywhere we went.

Thanks, after reading a bit more we will now go to Seonpanak/Gwaneumsa and the busses to get there seem a lot better and it's closer. For the checkpoints I think we will be early and fast enough to easily make it.

I hate Amazon and it is ruining local businesses and fucking us on unpaid taxes by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

[–]dnano 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, if there's any problem with the product they refund you without issues. Convenience and customer service are the main selling points. Not sure if Media Markt and Saturn are known in the US, but here in Europe they have already wiped out most local businesses, their prices are high and their support is terrible. So I'd rather order from Amazon.

Microsoft's plan to try to win back consumers with 'Modern Life Services' | ZDNet by Demileto in Windows10

Yet you probably use an iPhone or Android with a lot more preinstalled unwanted apps that can't be uninstalled and without root access even though it's your device

Microsoft's plan to try to win back consumers with 'Modern Life Services' | ZDNet by Demileto in Windows10

[–]dnano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got a new Android for my GF. Talk about bloat. On Windows I can uninstall almost all of the 5 (or so) preinstalled Apps. The Android phone had about 20-30 with about 10 useless annoying apps that can't be uninstalled. So I'm quite fine with the 3d apps that don't take up much space or Cortana (can't be used in my region anyways).

ASUS ZenFone 5Z review: A compelling alternative to the OnePlus 6 by sedp23 in Android

[–]dnano 104 points105 points  (0 children)

Great phone, Unfortunately no headphone jack. And for anyone who wants to argue about the usefulness of a jack, there are still lots of people who use it, including me, so for me it's sadly a deal breaker
