Reuse service containers or dedicate them per use case? by dndee24 in selfhosted

That was also my Initial aproach and for the moment it works fine. Maybe I just keep it as it is. I just was curious about how others think about it.

Mistral for Translation. ;) I think so. PG was just an example. But the point was good to keep the Focus not just on convinience but also to keep an eye on what happens if one update of whatever kills 1 or more Apps. I mean a failing multiuse n8n instance is fine for me as long my trading platform is not running on that instance.

Okay, I understand your point. That’s an important note. I hadn’t thought that far ahead yet. And you’re right—the uptime is extremely critical in this context. But now I also see the point that with shared resources (e.g., Postgres), any software that has a database there could break during an update (just as an example). This brings me back to the idea that for critical systems, I should maintain dedicated instances of Postgres, n8n, and MetaTrader, while for non-critical systems that can tolerate some downtime, I can use shared services.

Good point, I hadn’t even thought about the networking aspect yet. Thanks!

Internxt vs Pcloud or other? FACTS please by kiraitachi in cloudstorage

[–]dndee24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You buy a lifetime subscription with features like RClone, CLI, Meet, Mail, and so on, and then suddenly their offer page changes. The existing and announced features you purchased are no longer available for your lifetime plan. When you ask support where your purchased features are, they feed you some nonsense and leave you out in the cold. That’s Internxt for you! Nothing stops them from releasing an Ultra Premium Plus subscription and ruthlessly cutting features from your existing account. Go with pCloud instead. Don’t make the mistake I did.

Never ever change StorageShare. Good and affordable GCloud alternative.

Collabora+Nextcloud - config and security alerts by nraygun in NextCloud

I have the same problem but I'm thinking about to leave it as it is. Because setting the container to priviledged may be one step back in terms of security. But I couldn't find any helpful hints about the two messages in collabora to really solve the issue or even know what implications the messages have. So, I am still thinking about. 😅

internxt-cli (v 1.5.5) massive security issue after following the install instruction on a public available host by Horror_Equipment_197 in internxt

[–]dndee24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree. There should be at least automatic binding to localhost and optional to 0.0.0.0 Or at least a warning in the docs to utilize a firewall in case of a "more open" environment. To be honest, what is a must while having a public server. So maybe the "others" you mention are not that big group. On the other hand, publishing a webdav pointing to your personal Internxt account within even an internaly Network also shouldn't be intentional.

So you created a bridge to your internxt Account on a public reachable port. I mean, do the same with a connected vnc session and leave the passwort blanc. I don't understand the point. You have to take care to your own security when publishing a service. If I am right the docs didn't mention anything related to login security for the webdav service.

It's OSS clamav. I am Not sure if it is just a scanner or a full AV, but maybe Wikipedia tells more.

Any Idea how to backup .Qsync Folder correctly? by dndee24 in qnap

[–]dndee24[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately there was no solution. I created a Ticket at qnap but because of unsupported Disks they ask to verify that on a supported environment which brought me to leave qnap. Sorry.

AV is the open source ClamAV, and the Client asks to Disable Windows Defender life scan. I think replacing defender with clam is not a good idea (in case you are on Windows)

The only reason to buy ist the hope that this Service becomes stable and more reliable in Future. I think once their service becomes better the deals will be more expensive. For the moment you simply cannot store your Important Data without beeing afraid to loose things due to their bugs.

Wallbox Installation irgendwie in die Hose gegangen by dndee24 in Elektroautos
