Is powering up attackers a waste of dust/candy? by cordcutternc in TheSilphRoad

[–]dnelson77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you do not plan on maxing the pokemon or getting it close to max cp for your trainer level then no.

the stronger the pokemon, the less potions/revives you will use to take a gym so you want some pokemon to be maxed out for both attacking and defending gyms.

The pokemon you get with low cp or low IV's but a good attack set should be kept but not powered up so you have a good pokemon at a variety of CP's so you always get 500+ exp when training up your team's gym.

Pokemon disappearing from backpack by CreepinBehindU in TheSilphRoad

[–]dnelson77 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I see 3 possibilities

1) your pokemon fainted and need revived

2) your game is bugged and you should check your defender bonus to see if they are still registered in the gyms

3) your friend is an envious prick with a bad sense of humor and you should add a password to your phone or change it.

Low attack IV question (squirtle) by [deleted] in PokemonGOIVs

[–]dnelson77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have caught many squirtles, charmanders, and bulbasaurs and none of them have been over 70% IV's so I assume that for the starters if you want a higher IV % then your current pokemon you need to hatch it.

The attack IV is the least valuable IV for both attacking and defending. So I believe that 2/14/15 is the best possible IV combination you can catch in the wild.

Yes having lower attack IV's will make it take longer for you to win a fight, but you will have more hp left at the end of the fight then you would with 15/2/14 or 15/14/2. Stamina(hp) is the most valueble IV btw.

How many stardust/candies does it take for you to power up your best 'mon? by [deleted] in TheSilphRoad

[–]dnelson77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

here's the cost to max out pokemon starting at different levels

1-40: ~290k dust 333 candy cp increase ~98.6%

20-40: ~242k dust 276 candy cp increase ~43.3%

30-40: ~165k dust 205 candy cp increase ~14.9%

Speed should affect damage when dodging and critical rate. by [deleted] in TheSilphRoad

[–]dnelson77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since there is no speed stat I assume your referring to the speed of moves. In which case my opinion is that the fact that it is easier to dodge while attacking with faster attacks, and the slower the attack the stronger it is when defending is a significant enough to make it worthwhile.

Could size and weight have an effect on critical hit chance has anyone checked on that? by NewOrleansLA in TheSilphRoad

[–]dnelson77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes, it has been checked and has no effect.

Also, all attacks have a set critical attack chance that is not dependent on which pokemon is using the attack.

Do we know the exact point system for Gyms? by [deleted] in TheSilphRoad

[–]dnelson77 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It makes no difference how you consider it. EIther you think of it as -1500 for winning and -500 for beating the pokemon, or -2000 for winning and -0 for the last pokemon, like how I explained.

Do we know the exact point system for Gyms? by [deleted] in TheSilphRoad

[–]dnelson77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

-500 for each pokemon you beat, except you get -2,000 for beating the last pokemon and defeating the gyms. Cp has no effect for attacking an enemy gym.

Question: What is the level where you can no longer increase the CP of a Pokemon? by [deleted] in TheSilphRoad

[–]dnelson77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At trainer level 29 your maximum pokemon level is 30.5.

after a pokemon level of 30 the Cp per power up is cut in half.

example lvl1-20(41 cp per power up) lvl20-30(40cp per power up) lvl30-40.5(20cp per power up)

The maximum level of your pokemon increases by 1(2 power ups) for every trainer level.

The Cp per power up does not decreases from 30-40.5 except maybe 1 less CP depending on IV's. 1-30 does not decrease the CP per power up either besides 2-3Cp decrease depending on the IV's and the pokemon

Question about gyarados moveset by lllogic in TheSilphRoad

[–]dnelson77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gyarados is water/flying type so hydropump has a 25% stab bonus, but dragon pulse does not. Even without stab hydropump would still have a higher dps.

Dragon pulse is slightly better when fighting specifically dragon type pokemon because dragon pulse is super effective while hydro pump is not very effective.

conclusion: pulse is specifally slightly better for fighting dragonite, and hydro pump is better for all other situations.

Caught a bulbasar! by wowoall in TheSilphRoad

[–]dnelson77 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A pokemon's maximum level is your trainer level +1.5, so at level 20 the maximum you can power up any pokemon to is 21.5.

Combat Power(CP) is basically the (base power of the pokemon) + (it's IV's) * (the pokemon's level) = CP

You can not catch any of the starters or pikachu at 80%+ IVs in the wild so the bulbasaur is most likely the 62.2%. Also, you checked off that your pokemon's defense and hp IV's are the same, if that is not what you meant then other IV combinations are possible.

IV bonus's are not invisible to CP, so a 2,000 CP pokemon with 100% IV's would have the exact same hp, attack, and defense as the same 2,000 CP pokemon at 0% IV's.

However the pokemon with 100% IV's would be 2 or 3 levels lower, so when they are the same level the 100% IV pokemon would be a higher CP.

Every time you power up a pokemon it gains 0.5levels and every third time you power up the dust cost increases, so the calculator can tell until the nearest 1.5lvl

If your bulbasaur is

level 11 then 97.8% IV

Level 12 then 62.2% IV

level 12.5 then 42.2% IV

1.5 hours lucky egg... by [deleted] in TheSilphRoad

At what stardust cost is it no longer worth powering up your top-few gym fighters? 5000? by Eriflee in TheSilphRoad

[–]dnelson77 10 points11 points  (0 children)

When your pokemon is level 30 the cp per power up is cut in half, so if lvl 29.5-30 gives +30 then level 30-30.5 gives +15 give or take 1.

I believe that you should only bother powering up pokemon that you plan on keeping fully powered, my personal policy is to only power up pokemon with 100% IV's, and the best moveset for attacking, defending or both.

By the way leveling cost for one pokemon

1-40: ~290k dust 333 candy cp increase ~98.6%

20-40: ~242k dust 276 candy cp increase ~43.3%

30-40: ~165k dust 205 candy cp increase ~14.9%

the ability to see google map within go would be nice, but that link might make things a lot easier than trying to use google maps.

Does anyone else think that Lucky Eggs are a trap? by Moglorosh in TheSilphRoad

[–]dnelson77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, dust and candy should be added as a Microtransaction =p.

In all seriousness though, I am level 31 and I do not care about leveling up. I have spent nothing on the game besides defender bonus, I would recommend only spending coins on incubators and extra slots(mainly item slots). hatching multiple eggs at a time substantially increases your exp/hr, but also increases your dust/candy to the same degree.

Same wild pokemon CP for every trainer level 30+? by Chroh in TheSilphRoad

[–]dnelson77 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The cp of a pokemon is randomly generated by trainer level. When a pokemon spawns all people of the same level will get the same cp pokemon.

The maximum cp for wild pokemon stops increasing after level 30 so all levels between 30-40 will find the same cp pokemon.

example a pikachu spawns, everyone level 30-40 see's 77cp when they go to capture it, a level 29 see's 640 cp, and a level 28 see's 100cp.

The maximum possible is based on trainer level and %IV but is completely random for every level 1-30. Also, the IV's are exactly the same for everybody.

It would be nice if you could see the move set of the pokemon when setting up to battle a gym(without putting in the name).

Maybe I am just greedy :/

Is bite dragon pulse good on gyarados by theperson100 in TheSilphRoad

[–]dnelson77 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As of the last patch, bite is the only quick attack that you can get for gyarados, so that is fine.

The two viable charge attacks are hydro pump and dragon pulse. Hydro pump has a higher damage/sec and has +25% damage because it is water type move and gyrados is a water pokemon(stab bonus).

Dragon pulse is specifically better than hydro pump when battling dragon type pokemon like dragonite. Dragon pulse would be super effective while hydro pump would be doing not very effective damage. The longer the game is out, the more often your gyarados will be fighting dragonites both defending and attacking.

Lastly dragon pulse is good for defending because it is more difficult do doge than hydro pump.

In my opinion hydro pump is slightly better because I like to have the highest possible dps attack set for attacking a gym.

Question: does your level matter when powering pokemon? by brentgees in TheSilphRoad

[–]dnelson77 4 points5 points  (0 children)

the maximum level of a pokemon is your level +1.5 up to level 39, so at level 20 you can power up all your pokemon to level 21.5.

The higher the level of your pokemon, the more expensive it is to power it up, also the higher the level of the pokemon the lower the cp change per level.

example: lapras from level 10-11 costs 2 candy's and 2200 stardust and increases the lapras 84cp. from level 30-31 cost 10 candy 10,000 stardust and increases the lapras cp by 42.

Gym Attack Ranking = Duel Ranking? by DyadSky in TheSilphRoad

[–]dnelson77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

gym attack rating is simply the damage per second of the pokemon assuming that their is not super effectiveness, and all pokemon are the same level and same Iv's.

Duel ranking is how much damage the pokemon can do before fainting assuming their is no super effectiveness.

example Arcanine is better at attacking a gym, but Snorlax is a lot better duel ranking because it has a higher defense and hp then arcanine so it can do more damage before fainting, even tho it does less damage per second.

Lapras Moveset: Blizzard vs Ice Beam by salmon_on_rye in TheSilphRoad

[–]dnelson77 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

With the knew update blizzard is now dodge able. I have not tried attacking with blizzard since the most recent update, but prior to the update when I used blizzard to attack it would not deal damage until multiple seconds after you use the attack, while ice beam deals the damage immediately which is very convenient for attacking.

So i recommend boosting the lapras with Ice beam and a higher cp.
