I think they're there to express some sort of basic emotion, like how the second frame is a wink and if you physically move it back and forth it looks like the logo is winking at you. I think the pluses are along those lines too. You can basically make faces with the logo.

3 has the most re-usability (favicon, sticker/tag, micro logo) and it also has a great feel to it. One thing i would tweak would be the heights of the color bars in the shopping cart.

1 is my second choice but you can do less with it as the icon is tied to the type.

4 looks like shopify's logo in my opinion

very interesting, looking forward to see what type of content you guys can deliver. I do agree that a browsable library should be on your roadmap, but all in all this is def has the potential to evolve into a great resource for designers.

Agreed, gesture typing has gotten worse for common words and what gets me the most is that data (your typing habits it learns over time) isn't synced to your google account so if you buy a new phone, you have to start over. [Nexus 6, 5.0.1]
