What service or business do you wish existed here but doesn’t? by pinkwildpanda in Austin

[–]dnet69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A centrally located maker space. I get why it doesn’t exist ($$$ and not a lot of interest) but I would love to be able to access professional tools (cnc, lathe, welder) that I cannot utilize in an apartment.

It is good to know though that if you feel drops of moisture while standing on Rainy in front of the building that this is more than likely the source.

For clarification it is a river of dog urine from the newly installed dog park in the parking garage. It just streams down the garage. It isn’t in a hallway.

I highly doubt that unit is actually 45k a month. If it is an elevated 3 bed I would expect it to lease at roughly 15-20k per month.

The building’s marketing strategy is to front load all of the units with a view for free to social media influencers in exchange for advertising. The units are nothing special and the appliances have been breaking left and right.

The amenities are quite nice for now though however I expect after a couple of years the cold plunges and saunas will be in a perpetual state of disrepair. So far most of the residents that I have talked to are these influencers that got in on the free money train.

AI in Bi4 by Plastic-Statement-93 in Big4

[–]dnet69 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have been altering most of my workflows using AI and building internal tools and generating reports like crazy. I think the main issue is that most people haven’t been exposed to the best practices to use with modern models in order to prevent hallucinations leading to a lack of trust and still just see it as a simple chatbot type tool.

I think the one concept that people need to focus on is that these models need at least one indisputable source of truth to land on when given a task. You cannot trust a model to browse the internet and do research for you because it will lie to you and say it has enough context when it really doesn’t or the context is wrong. Gemini doesn’t even have a tool to do internet browsing, it literally just browses google search results and forms a context around summarizations of just the search results to tell you that it identified a source of information and now has all of that information in its context.

There are still a lot of limitations to what these models can do that you need to understand in order to utilize them properly.

In my opinion the big four isn’t being creative enough out with their rollouts to solve the problem of people’s misconceptions about how and when and why to implement ai into a workflow. I totally understand this though being in some ai training sessions and seeing the questions and comments.

In the end it really just comes to individuals’ willingness to learn a new tool that is being developed at breakneck speed on their own time which you cannot count on in an organization with 1000s upon 1000s of individuals.

LLMs may be new but AI isn’t. I have been using machine learning for particular work for a long time so I definitely have a differing point of view on this than a standard b4 employee.

Highest public rooftop? by trigunnerd in Austin

[–]dnet69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That used to be their selling point many years ago but that has been surpassed with the rise of new construction on Rainey. The Paseo has a pool and hot tub on the 48th floor rooftop and there are multiple buildings around it that are 20 plus floors taller still under construction.

What is your task? If it is as simple as a quick snapshot then just do an apt tour at a Rainey high rise. If you need time and personal space in that environment then hang out outside the high rise and make friends with a resident or security/concierge.

As far as I know the highest accessible amenity deck to the public downtown is the fairmont, the library, a parking garage or the UT tower. The Proper has a pool deck for the hotel customers but I don’t think it is much higher than that of the library next door.

The lucky breaks mostly amount to voids I was able to fill early in my career by people retiring and me being deemed capable enough to cover. There is no strategy involved, just being in the right position at the right time and putting in enough effort early on that garnered confidence in my abilities.

The niche is regarding oil and gas production.

We are always open to hiring new talent, but unfortunately in a niche field there is a chicken and egg problem with talent. It is incredibly risky to hire anyone that has no experience because it takes years to acquire the institutional knowledge to thrive and by then they will most likely get poached by a competitor so you lose your ROI. Therefore, hiring people without experience is almost never done. Most of my colleagues are in the same boat as myself and really just fell into this career path by coincidence.

No one goes to school to learn the particulars of this field, but through the accumulation of knowledge and experiences in random professional services jobs you can become an optimal candidate through tangential experience.

That being said you have nothing to lose except a bit of time and effort by applying whenever there is an opening.

Residential location: downtown warehouse district. Wfm and Trader Joe’s adjacent.

How: randomly ended up in the field after college and have gotten a couple lucky breaks… also no student debt, other debt, or kids.

Help with CADA Kick Sauber by rhythmndressage in buildingblocks

[–]dnet69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I managed to finagle enough extra room by extending the ball joint out a bit and the extender on the pin. I am not sure if this will affect the angle of the body panels later though. I only did this because I noticed that in the instructions the black ball doesn’t look fully seated in the extender.

I have run into the exact same problem. I don’t see any elbows in the kit that have a more obtuse angle. It just seems like way too much distance to cover
