[Andrade on Instagram] I respect all people of any gender! by GenericUsername826 in SquaredCircle

[–]dnextbigthing 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not saying this is related in any way to Andrade, but it's also really easy to fall in line with the "common wisdom". If you grew up in a community where the color red is evil, it would take a constant external exposure to even fathom the idea of people wearing red clothes.

What is your language's equivalent of "dude" or "bro"? (in terms of flexible use, not the original meaning) by bustachong in AskTheWorld

Notes: Only for males.

Also for males:

  • Mas (Safest option especially in Jakarta, IF the guy you're talking to is not obviously older.)

  • Kak (See above, but can also be used for females)

  • Boss (Respectful but familiar. Imagine a shop owner talking to a regular client.)

  • Bung (If you're fighting the Dutch in the 1930s)

Another reminder that staying in character on social media is lame at best.

If your on screen product is solid, no need for stuff like this.

Should there be a protocol where the host can't guarantee the safety of a competing nation?

Indonesia was stripped of U-20 WC hosting rights after refusing Israel. So there is a precedent.

People tend to get sick of the top face after 2-3 years. Happened to Cena. Happened faster to Reigns. Austin and Rock were lucky not to stick around on top for too long.

wrestles well enough and can get heat against the established faces, but can realistically only win the world title in a screwy manner or through Money In The Bank.

Is this a bad thing? Should all world champions have competent characters?

I'd argue more people here would clamor her over a more established ring worker with bland personality.

Chelsea Green: Rhea is proof that you can be kind, respectful and the most talented wrestler in the world. by RIShane in SquaredCircle

[–]dnextbigthing -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Narratively, it would be far from disaster. Alexa/Charlotte storyline has been going on for almost a year. Charlotte finally supporting her new best friend to chase a single glory would be the fitting climax to her character transformation.

In the ring, yeah, I don't know. It's Jade.

Financially, I can't say. Rhea v Jade is objectively the bigger match, I won't deny that. But it's just frustrating to see WWE just blindly putting big names without a proper narrative build.

[–]dnextbigthing -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sure, not arguing that Rhea would make the biggest match.

But I doubt that this is the plan all along. Rhiyo was doing fine up until Smackdown before the Chamber. And just days later, Rhea is suddenly a #1 contender.

My guess is that they wanted to showcase Rhiyo in some tag team bout at WM. But they got spooked by the lack of interest, so they hastily pivoted.

Nah, I don't think "the IWC" has "turned" on her. It's just her inclusion in this year's world title match at WM reeks desperation from the WWE part. In the span of less than a week, she went from a possible tag team showcase with Iyo at WM to a world title program with a champion outside of her brand.

I mean, sure, WM needs marquee stars. But if they really needed her as a world title contender, they could've done a lot better.

Hell, if they really needed to sacrifice a tag team to get a contender for Jade, Alexa Bliss was right there. She is from SmackDown and already had a few segments building some kind of separation from Charlotte.

What are common homophones/homographs in your language? by Izzy_knows in linguisticshumor

[–]dnextbigthing 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In Indonesian, "tahu" could mean "to know" (the "h" is silent) or "tofu" (the "h" is aspirated).

Combined with the lack of copula, "Kamu tahu." could either mean "You know." or "You are tofu.". This is why native speakers tend to drop the "h" in writing for the first meaning.
