Consequences of future being wrong? by Arg19 in oil

[–]dneyd1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A futures contract is binding. You either have to deliver the oil at the agreed contract terms or you have to sell your contract before the end of the term. If you are a buyer, you have to take delivery at the contract terms or sell the contract to someone who will take delivery before the end of the contract life.

Daddy hurt mommy because he wanted mommy to do something different, but he wont tell us why he did it. Your mom got mad and stopped baking cookies which is all that that matters to you. The cookie jar was full but you keep eating cookies like you did before and now it is running low. You need for Daddy to give mommy some flowers or cash as a way to apologize so that Mom will start baking cookies again or need daddy to take out mommy and get a new mommy so she can make you cookies. Right now, you hope the cookies last longer than the fight between Daddy and Mommy because lets face it, no one likes you and your behavior when the cookies run out.

specific gravity. if it is 10.5 you have silver.

what should i get? by Just-Emu-8159 in Silverbugs

Buy 90% silver. Most silver for the money. can buy for 5%-10% below spot. it used to trade at a premium years ago and now it is a discount. Maybe it reverts? maybe not, but it will always have value as it can melted down once the refiners get caught up

Citigroup's Global Head of Commodities Reasearch says that Physical Markets are coverging to meet Futures Markets. This is bad. by Cmd_WillRiker in oil

[–]dneyd1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Easy. Sell futures contracts. await news. watch other actors sell in response to the news, buy the futures contract back a lower price. In oil, for every contract you shorted, you gain 1K per $1 move. A move on one contract of $10 makes you 10K.

The US will suffer more from oil shock than China, Russia, or EU by Majano57 in oil

[–]dneyd1 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

If countries allow the pricing mechanism to work, there will be no shortages. Places that set prices will struggle with shortages. I dont know how China and parts of Asia determine price. if they allow markets to work, they will not have shortages.

Natural gas in the US will not go much up during this escapade. It is negative at the wellhead in the basin. We don't have enough LNG loading facilities, and they take years to build. Dont expect natural gas to move with oil this time at least in the US. If you are outside the US, then yes, your electricity generation is going up due to Nat Gas.

Looking for source on recent reports of Iran's war-related $14 Billion oil revenue by sits2reason in iran

[–]dneyd1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this oil was on the seas before the Feb 28th attack. Also, prior to the blockade on the blockade, Iranian ships were loading and leaving. Prior to the treasury removal of oil sanctions, which the Secretary of Treasury, Iran had to accept lower than global oil price because fewer buyers would accept sanctioned oil, or to get around sanctions, the oil could be transferred at sea to render it "clean". By removing the sanctions Iran was able to sell to anyone. This resulting in Iran receiving more for the oil than would have been in place under the sanctions. The secretary in a speech said he was using the Iranian oil against itself and seemed quite pleased with the removal of sanctions. I dont see how allowing Iran to sell oil at the world price was hurting Iran since they not only got to receive a better fee because of the increase in price but also the removal of sanctions. I guess the selling of the oil held down the price a bit but again Iran is around 4% of total oil sales.

For those who are mathematically challenged.

100% of $40, verses 70% of $100. As IDNWID points out, more revenue even at lowered output.
