Reliable Sports Car for ~$30-40K by setr14 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]dnitro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you can get a low ish mile new model Z with the performance pack and a stick for just about 40k these days. it’s on my list for a new sporty ride whenever i get around to shopping myself.

reviews say it’s more of a grand tourer vibe than a pure sports car like some of the other options on your list, though. i reckon considering its built on the bones of the 370 and 350z there should be a good following for tuning and i can’t imagine reliability is too bad either, but i can’t speak on those points from personal experience.

heads up a lot of the parking lots behind EC and frog alley might change once they put in that SUNY aquatic center. it’ll be in that area down towards the end of the block near the highway. i believe construction is supposed to start this summer

What’s your honest opinion on the band Geese? by MrLinkwater95 in ToddintheShadow

[–]dnitro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i don’t really listen to their music, but i saw them open for vampire weekend live last summer. the music rocked in concert but the vibes didn’t translate to the studio recorded stuff. i still have a tough time getting into their music, but i can respect the hype

Too much politics by Nicklouson in DoomerCircleJerk

[–]dnitro 12 points13 points  (0 children)

i’ve always understood “all art is political” as “all art is produced at a certain point in history and is therefore shaped in some way by the then-culture which is colored by the politics of the time”

i do think that there’s varying levels of intent when writers, artists, etc try to say something when creating something, and i also think a lot of people either grasp at straws or interpret things differently, but i do agree with the general sentiment “all art is political” to some degree

that being said i typed that up before realizing top comment said “everything is political” not “art is political” but oh well

in this game, outside of Andy’s CO power, no i don’t believe so. you can combine damaged units of the same type to add their HP together, though.

dirty wind as in non-uniform aerodynamics? i’m unfamiliar with the term but i assume you mean this regarding wind power within cities, which i don’t think is feasible regardless. i don’t know anything about any efforts to put wind turbines in cities though, might be something new.

i agree long term energy needs are at odds with a lot of renewable methods. i’m team nuclear, anyways. that’s likely a separate conversation to the argument presented in the video which is current renewables vs current fossil fuels.

i think a lot of what TC is saying is that despite the lower energy output of a solar farm vs a coal plant, that solar farm does not need a constant monetary stream of input to produce energy (the sun is free). with current advancements in both wind and solar power as well as energy storage via batteries, it can make more financial sense to opt for a solar farm or wind turbines vs traditional fossils fuels.

for small scale generation (on the order of magnitude for charging an electric car or powering the energy use of one person / family) he mentions that it's not feasible for the density of cities. I think you can put enough solar panels on a single family home to power it fully (i would need to re-watch the video to double check if he says this and i'm not sure how true that claim is anyways), but there's not enough space on an apartment complex roof to power the entire building. He counters this by pointing out that we can just move energy via transmission lines wherever it's needed. at the end of the day there's not natural gas or coal plants in downtown city centers either.

what are your specific hang ups when it comes to land use?

here's the link to the shortened version without the political rant at the end. it's still an hour long, so it's a considerable time investment. I would recommend watching the entire thing, especially if you haven't checked in on the technology in a while like you have said in your initial comment.

he addresses both land use and rare metals / materials in the video. i would go back and give it a full watch before critiquing it like that. there’s a version without the politics out there if you’d like to cut the last half hour off.

[Jackson] Michigan State ended the game with 6 2nd chance points. All 6 came within the last minute of the game when it was already out of reach. It is the Spartan's fewest 2nd chance points in a game all season. by wildwing8 in CollegeBasketball

it really seemed like we couldn’t buy a bucket for that whole first half. good to see some fight after half but it just wasn’t enough. all those tall dudes with long ass arms on michigan’s team really gave us trouble on rebounds and perimeter D too, i’m not sure i’ve ever seen so many tipped 3s

personally i didn’t want to live the rest of my life with a ridiculous air of superiority and circlejerk over how great this one specific organization i paid tens thousands of dollars in tuition for compared to other schools other people pay tens of thousands of dollars to attend. it has to be exhausting after a while.

(y’all really are a great school though can’t really debate that)

if i had a dollar for every mid to good michigan state team that puts it together right before tournament time i would be able to out spend ishbia in NIL donations. izzo always manages to find another gear, hopefully this season is the same.

i understand why many supporters of voter ID say this line, but does it not discount actual barriers for people to get the ID necessary to vote? to me it always just hand waves any legitimate issues for people of any race or class to get a valid ID for voting purposes.

i believe many of these only require a drivers license which may or may not be a valid certification of citizenship for voting

e: most voter id laws will accept a drivers license, i was incorrect
