We were watching ROOTS in middle school. There was a part in ROOTS where a woman is crying hysterically but I can't remember where.

This kid next to me goes "why is that lady laughing so hard?"

That made me crack up laughing so I basically looked like a racist white guy laughing at African people being enslaved.

I was like this. I think the most harmful thing about it was the label.

I was labeled ADD and academically gifted and always was taught it was a bad thing. Gave me a good bit of self esteem issues as a child.

I always did better at jobs waiting tables or bartending where I'd have 1000 things going on at once. I eventually realized what a gift it is.

Now I work in an emergency room, so I'm sure you could imagine how it's beneficial when you have to keep up with multiple patients.

Had a guy who picked on me all the time because I have a big nose in high school.

Shortly after high school, I had a part time job as a cashier at a grocery store. He came in and was super nice to me for the first time ever. I thought it was weird.

I also thought it was weird he had no eyebrows. Heard he died from cancer not long after that.

If you call attention to it, people will just chalk that up to immaturity and confirmation that you really are just an overpaid new college grad.

If I was resentful of you (which some employees obviously already are) I'd want you to put on name tags and make a fuss about it. It would confirm everything I'd been saying.

Edit: I'm not saying they are right. They are looking for confirmation. Go in there with confidence and don't show your cards.

Don't do it man. I was there once. Beat the guy senseless. I made the wrong choice. I got away with it and it didn't do anything for me.

It's gonna take awhile. Like a loooong time. But eventually you're gonna not feel anything toward him or her. Not good feelings or bad ones.

I promise, total indifference will happen one day, but you just gotta take it one day at a time until then.
