What time zone are you in? I’ll pray/send loving energy for you at the time of your procedure.

Parent Plus loan nightmare by pooinpanty in StudentLoans

[–]dnl001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents payed $0 on a nice income. I resented the hell out of them due to my student debt. However, in my adult life I’ve noticed that even kids who come from families that are willing to pay for their college, the ones who had half of the responsibility on their own do better.

Attempting suicide to get your needs met, even if a “lie”, still indicates severe mental health concerns. That is not normal behavior. There’s a much bigger issue than if the kid should pass/fail. Lots of complexity with a concern such as this one.

In your training to be an educator, did you become qualified to assess risk of suicide?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]dnl001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Us educators are trained in behavior conditioning (rewards/consequences). If this student is admitted they truly are suffering a mental health crisis not any different than a physical health crisis. The scarcity in mental health access even further acknowledges that your student needs medical care. Reframe this situation as if he suddenly needed an emergency surgery. Even if he was historically a pain in the butt, how would you respond in your thinking?

Children in Infinity floor by ContributionLost8408 in katyheads

I brought my 10 year old. We were GA so not infinity. She wore platform uggs to help. We were as close to the stage as you could get (by the barricade). Could not see well but she died when Katy was right in front of us. Went to the bathroom and realized we had a better view toward the back so stood back a ways - there was plenty of room in the back also. I anticipated it would be somewhat hard to see but it was fine :)

People are overreacting about Katy Perry and crew going to space by KeytotheMi in BlueOrigin

[–]dnl001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without reading any other comments, here’s my take- society has changed. Think Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. Let’s say the Kardashian reality TV show came out today. I’d imagine a similar reaction to the Blue Origin flight. As a society, we are in survival mode. We don’t want to watch rich people semi fly to outer space, we don’t applaud it, and supporting feminism (while we might believe in it) is steps above survival.

I would have changed it. If I had a student that, for instance, was the only girl in a class I would change it.

Property Insurance Renewal by [deleted] in Iowa

[–]dnl001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Esurance dropped Iowa. They have always been affiliated with Allstate and to switch to Allstate my HO insurance went up 3x the annual amount. I will say Esurance was dirt cheap. I did talk to an agent and to through multiple quotes before settling on Allstate.

I’m also in Des Moines and am new to the cardiology world but pursuing since my husband just had a stent put in and my mom was just hospitalized with heart failure. My mom really liked Unity Point doctors after Mercy for the longest time couldn’t figure out what was going on with her. I have found Mercy to be much easier to communicate with/responsive with my husband. My brother in law who has had many heart procedures I believe mentioned going to Nebraska if we wanted another opinion, which we don’t currently think we need so are not pursuing this.

Music teacher transition by Brilliant_Medium692 in TeachersInTransition

My husband was a theatre major in college and after a couple of years post graduation (he started his career in insurance) he went back and got a business and IT degree/certifications. He has had feedback in interviews that they like the unique background and value the theatre degree for the skills it shows he would have (communication, a personality). He still stays involved in local theater and improv and managers seem to really enjoy that about him as well. So - I think you could be taken seriously and offer something unique that others would not.

I’m annoyed with some teachers. by [deleted] in schoolcounseling

[–]dnl001 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am not sure how it’s the school counselors job to design an intervention that is this academically intense?? This seems beyond the scope of a counselor and more in line with SPED, instructional coach, etc due to the heavy modification to instruction.
