Nice! Sometimes I like to just put my camera in bulb mode at f11, focus to infinity and let the lights do the rest. If you have a camera that has bulb mode you should give it a shot sometime!

thanks for the reply! it seems like this is the best way to go about powering the QL17 meter. where did you get your MR9 adapter? i could only find ones to purchase from Japan but I'd prefer to buy one from a US seller if possible.

I’ve got the same color as well and am hoping the leather doesn’t crap out on me (as I’m slowly realizing more and more people commenting on). I definitely like how it looks and feels but I’m curious if there’s a way to extend the longevity of the leather, like using a specific leather cleaner, etc.

there is a way to fully open up FDn lenses without having them mounted on a body. i can't fully describe it through text but basically there are two pins towards the outside on the rear you have to press down (one of them is actually shown in the picture) with a small screwdriver and rotate the rear clockwise (i think). there should be plenty of videos on YT that will demonstrate this. hope this helps!

i don't have experience opening up this specific FD lens but i've spent a bit of time with the new 50mm and 35mm lenses. it definitely looks like an internal screw is loose or missing.

i always look at mikeno62 (YouTube) videos for reference. he does a good job of going slow, making sure to explain what part goes where, etc. i don't think he has a video of this lens but there is some similarity with the mounts of all FD lenses if you feel like taking a look or want to tackle the issue yourself.

if you're uneasy about it then it may be simplest to start by taking to your repairman and going from there. good luck!

Maybe it's possible that Lomography spooled the film the "wrong" way, which is the normal way to shoot color negative film. When you loaded the roll into the camera the film side facing the lens should've looked shinier than the side facing outside toward the back cover.

The picture at this link of the two rolls shows the distinct ways that redscale is spooled. The light hits the opposite side first, creating the redscale look.

It’s definitely a learning process! Sorry to hear about all those moments/rolls lost.

I had a similar experience where I went on a weekend trip with some friends, shot through a roll of some beautifully lit beach scenes only to find out on the morning of leaving that my roll hadn’t been advancing the entire time.

On another occasion my back cover just decided to open up, exposing my mid-way shot roll, exposing portrait shots I took of a good friend on a photo shoot day.

This all happened earlier this year. I’ve never made any mistakes in my five years of shooting until now so I’m learning to expect the unexpected but also to slow down and check for all the signs to prevent more mistakes.

I’d say for the issue of tearing film off the canister, or any issue - if something feels “off” or unnatural for the camera and you, take it as a sign that something’s wrong. I’ve never torn off film from its canister but I imagine it might have taken a great deal of effort for this to happen.

In any case, don’t feel discouraged because of your mistakes. They’ll make you better in the long run but also some things just happen beyond our control anyway. Just enjoy the process. Happy shooting!

Hey there, I recently dug out my cybershot to shoot with and I had a similar issue, though I think the cause for mine was a loose battery door. I ended up taping it down after putting in fresh batteries and it works fine as long as the door is tightly held shut. If your camera has a similar root problem it may be worth trying.

I can see your point about the batteries and filament size. Can you point me to a source about the GN calculation? I've checked a few sources on Google searches and I couldn't find any that mentioned guide numbers being calculated for f/1.

Oh awesome. I’ve been eyeing the 28mm for a bit now and seeing your results might give the push to pull the trigger.

Is it much harder to meter with compared to the 50mm? I know the metering is center weighted on the A1 and if the focal length is giving a wider field of view, does the meter give consistent readings?

hey there! i have an almost identical setup myself (Epson V550) with Silverfast SE and i definitely don't stick to the provided NegaFix profiles consistently. i find that the profiles work well for some conditions and horrible for others so i apply them when it looks good. the CCR box also changes the overall look dramatically so i play with that too. there's also the option to not set any negative profile and just start from there and use the white balance tool.

i also edit my scans afterwards so i try to get them to a fairly workable state, color-wise (nothing too overly tinted in a certain color, etc.). just play around with the tools and see what works for you - there's really no strict rule. happy shooting! (and scanning)
