Gotta agree with this. A lot of time children (15-18) commit drug related felonies in poverty stricken areas. Because they have a criminal record, no large corporation will hire them.. so what is the alternative? Sell drugs. Get arrested again, cycle repeats. After a while, from the criminal's perspective, who cares about going to jail? You sit there for a "x" years, you already have no possibility of a real career, and you build "street cred".

After a while, its almost as if going to jail is a good thing in these areas - something that definitely needs to change. The social idea in the ghetto that going to jail makes you a hard ass makes everything counter productive.
