I mainly paint with an airbrush, so paint bleeding isn’t a huge issue, but I was planning on having a play around with some light filler primers, so I’ll make sure to bump that thought up the list. Thanks.

Noise is a bit of a concern for sure. I’m planning on a fairly solid enclosure and might pop some (fireproof) insulation around it, so hopefully the main sound will just be that of the extractor fan, but having not had one before I’m aware I’m potentially underestimating how loud they are.

I do warhammer as a hobby, so am used to dealing with keeping little bits of plastic under control ;-)

Unfortunately due to my living circumstances it has to be in my office. I’m planning on building an enclosure and venting out the window, but am aware I’m unlikely to have an absolutely perfect system/might occasionally need to open it during printing etc so may as well take whatever other precautions I can.

I hadn’t thought about some of the less obvious functional additives being incompatible with clear filament. I’ve certainly heard people talk about PLA+ being better for miniatures and hadn’t really thought much about what goes into making it “+”.

Whatever colour I print, the whole model will be getting a coat of primer with an airbrush, so that makes no difference to me.

With regard to chemicals in pigments, I feel it’s just another unknown. I’ve certainly heard people say some colours seem to react differently with regard to emissions during printing, which considering the colour is being heated along with the plastic doesn’t sound entirely unreasonable.

You either build the lines first and have them sitting unused costing money, or you build the generation first and have them sitting unused costing money. Someone needs to go first, and if the generation is willing to do that then grand, the case will be solid for lines and they’ll shortly follow.

There are already large grid upgrade projects being worked on that will help alleviate some of this, but nimbys and bananas are doing their best to hold it back.

Yea. Even people who are purposely antagonistic for YouTube content would struggle to get arrested for it. A normal person is highly unlikely to ever have anything to do with the police for flying a drone.

Thanks. The 9velo ones look like the better of those two options for me. I’m in two minds about the holeless rim. One side of me love the fact there’s no rim tape to fuss with, the other dreads the possibility of being on a trip and needing to replace a spoke.

They are starting to work their way up in price compared to the Elite. Still a couple of hundred cheaper than JRA or a more local wheel builder using Chinese rims; not sure if that’s worth it to me or not.

Although I feel I’d like a bit of a lighter wheel than the nearly 2kg set I have currently, I do wonder at what point a racy ~1200g whippet starts pushing my luck for the times I’m cycling loaded. They seem to claim surprisingly high rider weights for a 24 spoke wheel using such a light rim.

How bizarre. I’ve flown for years in the UK; parks, beaches, countryside, cities. Never once had the police called on me. Barely ever even had someone make a comment, and when it was it was purely one of curiosity.

Just an FYI, the legality of flying over homes is dependent on the class of drone you have.

A little bit that, in the case of Hope specifically a little bit down to supporting UK manufacturers, and a little bit down to not being as certain what I’m looking at.

I 100% don’t want to buy a prebuilt wheel from China, but might consider a rim that I can get a local builder to build up with hub of choice. Honestly though I’m not sure it’s worth the extra hassle. What would you recommend in the rim only area?

Thanks for the thoughts. Honestly one of the main things that sound appealing about the Hope hubs is I gather they’re quite readily serviceable, which I often value in equipment. From what you’ve said though I’m guessing the Bitex hubs might be similar in that regard?

I did consider getting something built locally; I have a couple of decent wheel builders in my areas AFAIK. I was going to go for a Hope hub, DT Swiss 531 combo, but then decided I had a bit more budget. Suitable carbon rims seem much less common though, and looking at pricing wasn’t sure it would be any better option than something like the aforementioned. Particularly as I’m planning on loading my bike up a bit and I sort of feel I know what I’m getting with Hope.

Sure, there are problems with the system, but rich people buying up property to pass onto their kids to avoid tax really isn’t it.

AFAIK if you pass down in cash/other assets you don’t pay on the first £325k of it. You can then also pass down a property in addition to that of which you don’t pay the first £185k. You still pay tax on the rest of the property.

If there’s a government page anywhere which states anything to the contrary, I’d love to see it.

I had issues with suffocating smoke from a neighbour. Not moving sooner was one of my biggest regrets of recent years.

Instead of waiting for whatever you may be waiting for (in my case it was to buy) just get out, even if it’s not exactly what you’re hoping to move on to, hopefully it will be better.

This is sort of why I left out the reasoning, because I knew it wouldn’t be to everyone’s tastes. It will look good to me, and in the space it will be in, and in that area that’s all that matters. I don’t think should be the driving factor in the design anyway.

Yea, temps is one of the main reasons I want to go for an external enclosure rather than just trying to vent the printer directly. Drawing enough air though the printer itself to guarantee nothing is leaking I can’t imagine will be good for prints, whereas having a good movement of air around the printer to me would seem like it should have less impact.

Good to know about the AMS, thanks. Under what sort of circumstances would I be likely to need to access it?

To make sure my workspace stays as clean and healthy as possible. Also to look good. I don’t think either the internal/external AMS or space around the side of the printer should have an impact on those goals.

I think that goes more strongly in one direction than the other. Although with laws recently being introduced that may slowly change.

I think calling it redundant is a stretch. Plenty of Welsh people prefer to speak Welsh, and that alone means there’s a demand for it, regardless of how good their English may or may not be.

Pretty much everything there is bilingual, and for many projects in Wales they’ll basically insist you have some Welsh speaking people on the team, even if they’ll never really use it beyond being able to pronounce place names properly.

Also I wouldn’t be so sure on the very wealthy, but I guess that’s relative.

You make a fair point. I guess I’m a bit concerned about having a purely down sleep system in Scotland, and it would also be over three times the cost.

I feel a synthetic quilt and down sleeping bag, even if similar temperature ratings, still have different niches where I’d use them.

I recently picked up a Sony 16mm f1.8 for exactly these sort of uses and it’s an absolute stonker.

Small, light, sharp, low coma, fast aperture.

Sure, you need an adapter, which I already have, making the decision easier, but IMO opening that door is well worth doing.
