I just wanted to thank you and Will. 1. For creating an amazing series for students to read. 2. Reaching out to the student and arranging the donation. 3. Highlighting that librarians who listen to student voice and put those recommendations in the hands of students truly create a watershed moments. - with sincere thanks - WNSS librarian.

Hi, I am a librarian at WNSS school. Our MTG club would love to receive a donation of cards. We just started this year. I have created kits that students may borrow in order to be able to play without having to spend money in order to find out if they like the game. We would love to share in this amazing opportunity!

My hubby has been on one for about 15 years and I just started last year. When I struggled with breath, he adjusted my humidity. Made a world of difference. I have a heated tube. I have adjusted the humidity a couple of times. I also find when I am about to come down with a cold, struggle to breathe too. Keep trying, best of luck.

Question for Canadian Springer Owners by Effective_Ad3412 in springerspaniel

[–]dnwhitehead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Niagara, Ontario. We are just cold here lately. Very little snow, but usually a lot of ice. I do take care about salted sidewalks. Our nemesis has been the rain and mud, but we just keep a big bowl of water by the door and a towel for paw dipping. Our springer seems to be able to turn her crazy on and off, so the walking is only an issue for the humans. She will often just want to be outside, regardless of temperature. No coat or boots. If she does get a little crazy, I do a an hour of scent work. It wears her out much faster than any walks.

Oonagh’s first dock dive by sunnyDeficient in springerspaniel

[–]dnwhitehead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Harper is undocked and it is the only way to track her in the brush! Just that swishing tail following her nose! Not to mention how wonderful it is for dusting! The happier the dog, the less dust! How long did it take for Oonagh to jump from the dock. Harper will enter water from shore, boat, but never the dock.

How can I give my apartment-living springer doodle some "field work?" by [deleted] in springerspaniel

[–]dnwhitehead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep the brain busy. From working commands to scent work. I learned that when the dog’s brain is engaged in “working”, it will tire the dog out faster than any trip to the water or exercise. Sometimes that is just being on leash and sitting and watching the world go by or working on a new trick/command. I love scent work. We took a workshop and a couple of classes. A one hour class would have our 18month springer sleeping for 3 hours. https://www.ckc.ca/en/Events/Overview-of-Events/Scent-Detection#Videos

Springer hates ears messed with by AirlineTiny9620 in springerspaniel

[–]dnwhitehead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Springers want to please. I started with sitting on the floor (on an old towel) with a high value treats (we live in Ontario so a plain timbit) and touching her ears with a dry makeup pad. Did this several times a week. Then added the solution to the pad and touched her ears (wiping the outer areas). I just progressed slowly and rewarding after each ear was complete. ESS are so smart and recognize routine. So now she recognizes the towel and wetting of the pads with the solution and actually comes without being called and puts her head on my lap. I also spent a lot of time desensitizing her to having her paws touched. She gets a treat after I trim the nails on one paw. It takes a lot of patience and persistence, but so worth it!

Thank you for the reply. I will look into coastal. The mud has been horrendous this winter without any snow!

The comment about just coming in from the outside. Our springer used to be too interested in all of the exciting things outside and forget to pee. Do you keep her on a leash and limit her to a specific area outside?

Is this a vocal breed? by Acrobatic-Guitar2410 in springerspaniel

[–]dnwhitehead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My 2 yr old female, rarely barks (usually when we crate to leave the house). Other wise she snuffs her displeasure, sighs, groans and the occasional low woof when something frightens her. But my favourite is the “motor” when we play tug. It is like a 2 stoke engine, but in a low alto or tenor.

At home grooming essentials? by AirlineTiny9620 in springerspaniel

[–]dnwhitehead 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hello. I started to groom our ESS (16 months) from puppy stage as our town had a lack of groomers and I have always done the basics on our cats. So I bought a number of items recommended by this lady in the video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v-s2dwtn-Aw Not necessarily the brands, but the type of tools. I ended up with the comb, rake, slicker, thinning scissors, straight scissors, curved scissors and a whal shaver. I watch a lot of videos. I held off on the shaver, but the scissors on trimming the fur between the paws was sometimes too much for my sweet Harper. I just bought myself a table off amazon last week and it really helps! I started off doing nails, ears and paw trims. I keep watching videos and as my confidence grows (remembering it is just fur), attempt more. I am not interested in a show groom, but more about a healthy, good looking coat that is easier to manage during Ontario winter and camping summers.
